gotta say this team is ****ing boring. Outside of Rielly and Kadri, we're making the same mistakes game after game, goaltending is suspect once again...7 games in and this already feels like a long season

And what's really not surprising is the same posters who have been defending Reimer and Bernier for the past few years are ONCE AGAIN leading the charge of coming up with some really silly comments on why the goaltending has been suspect.

Point is neither team nor both goalies are good enough IMO. Reimer is a back-up that is getting more time than he should because in all honesty Bernier has been pretty damn bad. The goaltending all in all has been subpar to say the least, anyone with a true and genuine look at this team would realize that. Until we start getting decent goaltending this team can work as hard as they want..they're not going to out score the mistakes being made night in and night out.

Froese was the Leafs best centre in the dot and you can see why Babcock likes him.

That's what a rebuilding team looks like. Babcock only has 2 top 6 forwards to work with and then a bunch of 3rd/4th liners. His future D are just kids surrounded by average vets. Neither goalie can decide who wants to be better (or worse).

it's not about which goalie can decide who wants to be better, it's that both goalies aren't that good to begin with. At what point does Bernier's potential stops being potential and he is what he is?

Face-offs are extremely important and a real talent, they give you possession, when you need control of the puck, in either the offensive, or defensive zones and can often make or break a game.

Froese would be waiver exempt if returned for a couple of reasons.

1) If he was recalled as an injury replacement (short term IR) for a certain player ie Bozak then when Tyler returns he could be demoted waiver exempt.

2) There is a 2nd CBA rule that applies in that players that clear waivers at the beginning of the season as Froese did already this year then there is a grace period (1 month IIRC) where that player can be recalled and returned without waivers.

If the team however wants to keep him beyond the injury replacement recall then thereafter he would need waivers in the future.

I noticed a serious difference in the post-game interviews this year compared to last year that I think directly attributes to Babcock. There's actually accountability. If a guy played poorly, he takes responsibility for it. I like it

I know he's being optimistic and that's a good thing, but to be fair to the other poster, you can't just name three prospects yet to step foot in the NHL and Rielly, and just proclaim it as a "winning core". It's literally no different than Edmonton fans saying "McDavid, RNH, Yakupov, Nurse" is a winning core in the NHL. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. But we better hope so because those kids are what our hopes and futures depend on.

That provides an interesting side story doesn't it? My first instinct is that Dubas will send him back with lots of praise for coming up and doing an admirable job. Secondly telling him to go back down with the young lads and keep your foot on the gas.

But man, did Babcock heap on the praise in the post game or what? It's clear he likes him and wants him. I will be watching with great interest.

One small remark: The rule is not restricted to players that clear waivers at the beginning of the season. If a player at any time clears waivers, he only has to be placed on waivers again after he has either cumulatively spent 30 days on the NHL roster or cumulatively played in 10 NHL games.
