But for someone expected to play roughly 15 games, hopefully winning more than he loses behind a solid team, it's a good deal to try and save money to redistribute where it's more needed.

How can this be a bad thing? That contract hardly guarantees an NHL job next season nor does it take one away. It's almost like Sparks knows exactly what his status as a pro goalie is.

As expected, cheap backup option #1 for next year. Wouldn't be surprised to see Hutchinson signed for the same, and they'll battle it out for the backup role next season.

It also brings him to UFA status I believe after next season, since he'll turn 27 just before July 1.

Dubas loves the fact that choosing Sparks over McBackup cost this team home ice advantage. Not a good sign when a GM can't admit his mistakes.
