maybe before he was injured but I bet now he is a leipsic replacement who will likely be first forward call up. Unless you meant on the actual marlies then yeah except he plays C when he was with the Providence Bruins so he adds a good C to the marlies now and we may see better scoring out of Johnsson and Timashov for instance as a result
He'd probably play wing. Froese and Smith aren't bad at center, but there's very little on the RW now that Kapanen is out.
Leipsic-Froese-???
Rychel-Smith-Johnsson (or swap the wings, doesn't matter).
Greening, Cameranesi, Laich, Cliche, Moore and a few good ECHLers among those who can play bottom 6 C.
Lindberg would likely be the RW put into the top 6, and if he's put into the top 6 then Greening is the only bottom 6 forward with more than 7 points. Having Griffith take over the Kapanen spot, leaving Lindberg and Greening in the bottom 6 with a surging Cameranesi and Moore, along with Timashov, the rotational ECHLers and strong vets in Michalek, Laich, Cliche and Clune, should at least help the team hold the fort.
Keys for the Marlies to turn it around:
1) Consistent and better play from Bibeau. He's had some rotten games, and it may be time for Sparks, who has been consistently good when in the net, to get some more of the workload. Bibeau should be at least be able to get a .910 again with this defense, but is instead hovering around a .900.
2) Defense all around needs to improve. Far too many mistakes with turn overs, too many mistakes in their own end and not enough pressure offensively is causing some troubles in the offensive zone.
3) Everyone not named Leipsic, Kapanen and Nielsen needs to step it up more offensively:
-Froese, Smith, Rychel and Johnsson have already started doing that, but Froese should easily be over a PPG with Leipsic and Kapanen, while the others should be closer to a PPG than the 0.5 PPG they are getting right now. This is the best of the bunch too. Greening and Lindberg have done nicely in the bottom 6, especially given their two way play, but even they should be over a 0.5 PPG by now.
-On defense, Valiev and Holl really need to give the Marlies more offense on the back end. Each should be around a 0.5 PPG by now, but both are closer to the shutdown bottom pairing of Campbell and Loov in production (and they get a lot less offensive time). Campbell and Loov, along with Dermott, can also improve in the points department, but given Dermott's injury and pretty strong defensive play, and that Campbell and Loov are probably the only two Marlies defensemen who play well defensively on a regular basis, they can get a pass.
-The bottom 6 especially could do more. Timashov and the NHL vets especially.
4) Finally, Griffith needs to step up and dominate the AHL like Kapanen did. If he can, at least we'd have 3 really good scorers, a few other strong scorers with the potential to do more, and a lot of potential that can hopefully come together enough to make the playoffs and potentially even get somewhere in them.
