Being great for a month or two in 2019 doesn't mean the Leafs should be locking him up through 2026
But you do keep him for now, you need to fill out a defense next season

I dont think Barrie was ever going to be extended here. He was always going to cost too much. Let him be some other GM's mistake. He's going to get 7x7, maybe more, depending on desperation this summer.I wonder if this means the Leafs are absolutely not eyeing a Barrie exension.
I'd hope for $4.5-$5 for 3 years but $5.5 wouldn't be unacceptable. It's more the term I'd be worried about. That skating isnt going to get better.Something like Stralman got? 5.5 x 3?
A player of his ilk at his age is probably looking at their last big payday. I doubt he signs a 4/5 year contract. He’d probably take slightly less money but more years. Someone out there will offer him 7 yrs.

I think I’d prefer 3 years, but I’ll be happy if we get him signed either way.

Bobby Mack said on insider trading, the Leafs are in the early stages of contract talks.
I am interested to see if this gets done, and if itt does what he signs because they do have spots to fill for next season.
I'm not sure why it would 2 different styles
Like how Tavares took a discount?8x8 is closer to reality than the usual "player x will take a discount to play for Toronto" that we hear for every single free agent ever.
Which contract has he given out that’s been bad?Dubas and extension talks = scary!
Yes.If he signs an extension does Muzz have to be on the protected list for the expansion draft?
Its going to be 6 years at 5.75M
Sure could be
But it won't be signed in Toronto
...
Its Dubas, that's the minimum.
Like the Johnsson, Kappy, Holl deals? all much smaller.
None of those guys had any leverage at all.
A pending UFA has leverage.
Did McKenzie indicate any potential dollar amount or term?
My guess would be in the $5.5-$6 million per year for 3-4 year range.
I like it, but term is key. I absolutely am not going over 3 years and that likely means he walks, and I'm ok with that.
