The #Leafs have also hired Matthew J. Herring to be the club’s head strength and conditioning coach. #TMLtalk

Anyone know anything about him besides him being the strength coach for the NBA spurs?

I'm digging the hiring tbh. San Antonio has needed their older core guys being in top condition in order to compete. I wonder how his skills will transfer from basketball conditioning to the ice hockey rink.

Surprised we didn't go after the Phoenix Suns medical staff. Well regarded for extending careers and really helping players stay healthy.

Meh. So what?

Unless he decides to make Phil his number one priority, its not an important hiring.

Kessel isn't the only Maple Leafs player that could benefit from a new conditioning coach.

Plus, Kessel very likely won't be here past July.

His resume is a little.... underwhelming.

2.5 years at UC Santa Barbara, not exactly a high-level athletic program, and working in low-profile sports.

1.5 years with what I presume to be a Bermudan athletic performance academy. He was the founder.

2 years as a coach with the Spurs.

So... it seems with 6 years in the field, he has had 2 years in a profile position. I am also skeptical of his knowledge of sport-specific training given he's Bermudan, and has no experience at a high level with hockey players.

Not sure what that has to do with anything. Also he was educated in Scotland and Wales not Bermuda.

I'm skeptical of your ability to evaluate this hire. What are your qualifications?
