If Doughty had his current contract with like 4 years left on it, sure.
The reality is he is an impending UFA who, worst case doesn't sign in TO and best case, signs a market deal of 10-12 million.
Either way, Doughty is getting PAID and the Leafs lose. If they're going to pay him $12 mil, it will be via UFA, not after trading that massive package for him.

As the deal stands, it's horrible for Toronto

Hjmarsson would be a good add but he's not the player he used to be and is a LHD.
I wouldn't HATE it because it also gets Martin off the books but if I had to guess, the Leafs are going to package more to get a better fit in terms of position and age.

Moving Doughty would certainly give that a large kick start.

They are not looking to rebuild. That only happens if Drew decides not to stay here, not the other way around.

I think a straight up trade would be fair to be honest with you, but not sure other fans think the same...

Gardiner is way better offensively, and Ekholm is way better defensively.
