No you are just basing it on good team ,bad team.Sabres have a great young core.Is it out of the question they will be good again real soon? Also do they like the community neighborhood schools etc? And lastly he is guaranteed the number 1 spot not guaranteed on another team.My point is we don't know can't assume, everyone is different.

If the Buffalo management is doing their job, they already should know whether Ullmark is willing to resign or not. If he isn't willing to commit it's probably not a good sign. Like you've suggested, we can't assume, but if he won't commit, you move him.

Is it out of the question that they won't be good again soon? It certainly is possible, but it requires a massive shift in ownership/management thinking. They need to completely rethink the culture of the team, and perhaps move pieces that are part of the problem. I don't pretend to know what those areas are, but there is something fundamentally wrong at the moment.

Yes his name was Ralph Krueger. As soon as he left Dahlin and Mitts in particular picked up their game considerably along with Joker,Asplund and playing Bryson.Young players playing well, loose and having fun

You are fooling yourself, if you think the problem begins, and ends with Krueger.

Oh iam not saying he was the sole problem. However when our young foundation looked lost ,Dahlin being heavily criticized on this board as being overrated not that good etc then he plays the best hockey of his young career? Also Middlestadt, Jokehari, Asplund all of a sudden playing solid to excellence hockey after he gets fired? Krueger being fired and Ullmark returning has made a huge impact. This is without Eichel of course and Cozens who has had a solid rookie year

If Buffalo isn't signing or trading Ullmark by the deadline then what are they doing? Management can't afford to keep missing.

They could have a secret “we’ll resign you after the expansion draft” agreement. If he’s a UFA they don’t have to protect him. And if Seattle wants him, they’d have to sign him and then Buffalo doesn’t have to worry about the draft at all.

Thing is they don't have another non-exempt goalie worth protecting, nothing stopping them...

would make sense if buffalo had another goalie to protect.

it’s something Buffalo could do if they Risto or Millerwith Montour where they sign Montour post ED

They could have an agreement with a team like Columbus or Washington to acquire a goalie after the season. Those teams have a goalie to expose that Seattle would be interested in (Korpisalo or Merzlikins, Samsonov or Vanecek).

But yes, I do agree that if they sign Ullmark they’ll protect him. Barring something extremely crazy happening like the Jets or Tampa dump their goalies
