No you are just basing it on good team ,bad team.Sabres have a great young core.Is it out of the question they will be good again real soon? Also do they like the community neighborhood schools etc? And lastly he is guaranteed the number 1 spot not guaranteed on another team.My point is we don't know can't assume, everyone is different.
If the Buffalo management is doing their job, they already should know whether Ullmark is willing to resign or not. If he isn't willing to commit it's probably not a good sign. Like you've suggested, we can't assume, but if he won't commit, you move him.
Is it out of the question that they won't be good again soon? It certainly is possible, but it requires a massive shift in ownership/management thinking. They need to completely rethink the culture of the team, and perhaps move pieces that are part of the problem. I don't pretend to know what those areas are, but there is something fundamentally wrong at the moment.
