On the Jeff Marek show, Elliott Friedman stated that 2 teams that have shown interest in JVR are the Leafs and the Flames, although he did state that Toronto had a more quiet interest.

I think JVR makes a lot of sense for both teams especially given the likely asset cost, I don't think he's a player you need to break the bank to acquire even at 50% retained.

I think it would actually be pretty cool if he went back to the Leafs because then his career would just be Leafs and Flyers, with the only team he's ever signed a contract with being the Flyers.

He's not my first choice that's ROR, but JVR would be cool.

Can we please not have interest in guys who can't skate? Backlund can't be our best player at bringing pucks through the neutral zone. Why the hell did JG have to sign in Columbus? Stupid for him and us.

Misleading title and first post. Friedman said "“It wouldn’t surprise me if Calgary was looking at van Riemsdyk. I think Philadelphia is getting to the short strokes with him and I do think Calgary is potentially one of the teams. A player like van Riemsdyk is the type of player Calgary is going to add.

Then on Friday's show he said he got told it's not going to be JVR

Highly, highly doubt it. The Leafs need 5 on 5 warriors who are going to go to hell and back to slug it out with Boston and Tampa. JVR can score goals, but the last thing we need is a specialist we have to shelter with easy ES and PP minutes.

I mean the PP. has let us down in game 7, JVR could make a difference there.

I really dont think he is the type of player the leafs need or are missing.

Don’t think we can fit JVR in on top of Meier, O’Reilly, Kane and Chychrun. I’m sure Dreger, Kypreos and Friedman will update us soon on how everything fits

Like I said he's not my first choice that flips between ROR and Timo Meier, but the Leafs do need a top 6 forward and he's a top 6 forward

I mentioned weeks ago that he's the kind of guy the team might be interested in because he won't cost much and if @ 50%, will leave you with enough assets (1st/Knies) to still get another player. We just need to get confirmation that Muzzin is done for the season before the ball gets rolling with his 5.6 mil LTIR cap space.

Now in terms of where he fits, I really couldn't tell you. Does he go on Tavares' wing? Because Tavares and JVR are not the greatest 5 on 5 players. Does he go to the 3rd line with Kampf? Doesn't make sense since Kampfs line is supposed to be our best defensive line.

I imagine the lines would look like

JVR - Tavares - Marner/Nylander
Kerfoot - Kampf - Jarnkrok
Engvall - Holmberg - ZAR

I'm not so sure this makes the team better or tougher to play. Unless they plan on paying the piper with 1st + Knies + for Chychrun, then I guess this makes some sense.

What about

JVR Matthews Marner/Nylander

Bunting Tavares Marner/Nylander

They could try that but Bunting and Matthews have been so good together that I feel like Keefe only takes Bunting off his line for disciplinary reasons or to get him going.

Honestly makes a lot of sense for the Flames to me. I'm kind of curious who would move to the other wing, but if you could get him opposite Huberdeau, that seems like a nice match to give him somebody who is a bit of a pure finisher to capitalize on what he can do as a playmaker and setup man.

Slow not competitve easy to play against. They don't need that. Waste of what little cap space room they have. They need someone to play center if Tavares or Matthews get banged up.
