I forgot to mention it earlier but why doesn't Karlsson kill penalties? Isn't that odd for a D man to not have any PK time in the game?

I know he plays a lot of minutes 5 on 5 and on the PP but it just seems really strange to me that 1D on his team gets no PK time. Does their offense really need him out on the ice for 28 minutes a game?

Because Karlsson sucks defensively.

Raymond is useful for something

I could not stop laughing when I saw this on TV. Raymonds attempt at being physical results in human bowling.

So does Franson and even he can manage to kill off a penalty. The optics of having your 1D sitting on the bench because your team is on the PK is just plain strange to me. Supposedly Phaneuf and Subban suck defensively as well...they both kill penalties.

Karlsson plays 27:18 minutes a game, with 1:45 of it being shorthanded.

According to the commentators last night, he doesn't play on the PK and in last night's game having him sit on the bench for all of the PKs disrupted the flow to his game which is why he looked off.

You would think a Norris winner would be playing on the #1 PK unit.

Even PK doesn't play on the PK...ironically. The last two Norris winners can't even kill penalties. That's right, they're just PP, puck moving specialists...guys like Doughty, Weber and Keith were probably rolling their eyes and laughing.

Man, the sens must be checking under their beds for Kessel before they go to sleep at night.

Thrill's numbers against Ottawa are insane.

Whoa, whoa wait....Subban doesn't play on the PK either??? Are you sure?

Until last night's commentary during the Leafs/Sens game, I thought all D play on the PK especially if you're the 1D. Now you're telling me that there are two 1Ds in the league that don't kill penalties....do you know of any more?

Karlsson isn't too bad at 1:45 for SH TOI/g. In comparison this year, Subban has 42 seconds SH TOI/g and Yandle has 16 seconds of SH TOI/g. Phaneuf has 3:09 SH TOI/g and 3:31 PP TOI/g, he really plays in all situations.

Hes generally on for the last 20 or 30 seconds, he never starts a PK.

But isn't that what the Norris trophy is supposed to be about? A player that plays in all situations as suggested by being an 'all around' player at his position? If Karlsson and Subban aren't even relied on for important minutes like on the PK why are they winning over guys like Doughty and Keith?

Karlsson must poorly every time he plays the Leafs. I don't really watch many non-Leaf games and I haven't seem him dominate or even be particularly good yet.

Yes. Unfortunately it tends to go to offensive d-men. It's why many people laugh at the last two Norris winners. I mean seriously, imagine if Phaneuf pulled what PK did the last time they played.....running around all over out to even the blueline while the puck is in his end and very nearly costing a goal.

Would be lovely to see an award for defensemen.

Another reason HNiC sucks.

Checking NHL.com seems simple enough that anyone could do it rather than appear ignorant especially since they get paid to do it.

People are asking about Kessel for MVP? Does he kill penalties?

Exactly why I hate how the Norris has turned into what ever D has the most points usually wins for is very close to winning.

I look at it this way. The Swedes are up 1 goal with 1 minute left in the game in Sochi do you really think they will have Karleson on the ice to kill off the clock....same for PK for Canada. Sure both are great offensively but you wouldn't trust them up a goal in the final minute.

So guys like Keith, Webber, Doughty, Suter are the true Norris guys....can play both ends of the rink on the PP, PK

I've been critical of Karlsson for a long time, but this is kind of a simplistic view of the Norris. If you break the game down to a very simplistic view of 'scoring' and 'not being scored on' as the two main things you have to focus on you still need to score to win, and even if you are the best in the world at not being scored on you can't win without scoring. That's why the best offensive players in the league are valued higher than any other players.

I'm not really sure what this 'true Norris' stuff comes from, but being good defensively is still only one part of being a good defenceman.

For what it's worth I don't think that Karlsson should have won the Norris in 2012, and he shouldn't be a contender for the Norris this year. There was a brief stint in the 12/13 season where Karlsson was probably the best defenceman in the league, but outside of that he's too inconsistent.

I was at the game for my birthday. Sat in Platinums for the first time.

Wow, the energy in the building was so much better than it typically was. Proper playoff stuff.

Met Bernier, Gardiner, Rielly, and Franson at E11even after the game as well.

They all said happy birthday to me, took photos with me, and gave me some autographs. Was damn cool.

Thanks dude! Much appreciated. Yeah it was a special night - I've been to dozens of Leaf games, but never sat that close before.

And yeah I was a little giddy school girl when I saw them walk into the restaurant. I had to literally get nudged by my girlfriend to go speak to them haha, but when I did they were super friendly. Rielly seems quite nervous and uncomfortable with the whole "interact with fans" thing though.

Also - I don't know who Bernier was with, but she was A BABE! 10/10 for sure. No wonder he plays so well. I'd be a partial god if I had that walking around with me all the time.
