The Canes have a problem at starter, not backup. Campbell is valueless in that trade.

The retention on Martinez is not needed; Carolina can make the cap work for this year in a different way. His appeal is tied to his asset cost and if that's a 1st round base, Carolina's out, imo. If it's a 2nd rounder, as at least one person in the league expects, there's some trade potential there.

Absolutely zero chance you get a 1st out of CAR for Martinez, even if he’s not a rental. Want to talk 2nd + B prospect (not Gauthier level) then sure.
