I don't see this as a shot against the islanders but more a shot against Tavares.

Tavares is a target because of the news about him and the Sharks (one of LA's rivals).

A shot against the Islanders would focus on how the team (the Kings) kept their guy, not about how their guy (Doughty) stayed.
