Kicking a player so he falls to the ice is the same thing as domestic abuse. Gotcha.

You have to love the simple minded creatures that need to use extreme comparisons to get their point across. Because they lack the mental capacity to use a realistic comparison to paint their message along.

Kucherov won't be suspended. The league is already laughing at how bad the Bolts are getting their asses kicked and probably see that as punishment enough.

Why don't you? Nah, you're right. Let's get Slava Voynov 2.0 banned from the sport because he kicked a former Bolt player.

Am I speaking your language yet?
 It’s unfortunate you missed the point. I used domestic abuse because it, much like kicking is hockey, is something you’re taught at a young age is simply unacceptable.

I like Kucherov but that’s bull**** and it’s extremely disappointing to see it from a player of his calibre.

Bare in mind it is not necessarily more "suspend" votes. Just more saying it should be sanctioned to some extent. We don't want to see the game head in that direction, where we see more of, and need to judge the degree of kicks. There is no need of them in the game. As above where I agreed with Devil Dancer, I thought a fine would at least put it on record as unacceptable. I voted yes for a hearing based on that.

Thats a fair point.

The gif in the OP doesn't do it justice. Watching the full shot in real time, Kucherov really came in fast with that kick. I'm changing my vote to definitely worthy of a fine, though I still probably wouldn't suspend him for an ECF game.

never would have suspended him, honestly thought this was going to be a thread full of people embarrassed that it was made, but I think he probably should have been made to pay a little fine.

Just enough to say "hey, quit it, play hockey".

although frankly the last thing I want is a Kucherov wake up call anyway, so maybe nothing is just fine.

Should be done for the rest of the playoffs and maybe into next season. One of the dirtiest play I've ever seen. His blade could've broken skin and when that happens you're just asking for an infection. Not to mention the possible equipment damage that now the Caps staff has to deal with.

More of a trip than a kick. And since he did it with the lace-side of his skate I don't think it's that egregious or dangerous.

This is sad.

Was it a "hockey play"? No.
Was there any variation of this that could have hurt, much less injured the caps player? Absolutely not.
Move along.

And it's funny to me how people go digging through replays looking for stuff like this. But the 150 punches to the head in after the whistle scrums in every game are completely fine because we're used to them. (They ARE fine, but they're also way worse than this)

Not so black and white (for the NHL)
49.4 Fines and Suspensions - There are no specified fines or suspensions for kicking and opponent, however, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28).
You realize a Match Penalty is an automatic suspension from games until reviewed. NHL has set a precedent that a Match Penalty is minimum 1 game suspension if the infraction is upheld.

no games because no injury

4 games if it was vicious enough to have caused an injury

connolly should have dropped down and trotz should have had conducted the post game presser as if it was a funeral.. "connolly will not be back for the series" easy 4 games

but caps dont have gamesmanship like the bruins

Without considering this play, I do have issues with this line of thinking.
Dumb and dangerous plays will continue to happen as long as the league (as well as fans and everyone else) keep their disciplinary decisions ABOUT THE END RESULT and not the INITIAL CAUSE.

Player A can attempt to remove the head of Player B.
If player B is Byfuglien (thick neck no injury) there will be no suspension.
If player B is Marc Savard and his career is over, Player A gets thrown out of the league.

It’s getting attention because it’s a black-and-white match penalty which was not only missed by the refs in real time, but also ignored by the league with 2 days to review.

Whether you want to see a suspension or not (I don’t) you’d at least expect some sort of reaction. Imagine if an NFL player kicked a QB between plays, you’d see a reaction of some sort.

This is only true until Kucherov becomes Marchand and does it to someone from your team...Am I in the wrong here ?

Wow it was a kick, straight up illegal and gutless and he skated to the bench to hide

If you were ‘allowed’ to kick like you’re ‘allowed’ to fight, the serious injuries in skate related incidents vs fist related incidents wouldn’t even be comparable.

You do realize skates have blades on them, don’t you?

Not sure what's up with Kucherov as of late but it's not making him look good at all. He's one of the most skilled guys in the league. No need to resort to dirty plays.
