Omg this take is so tired.

Price wants a cup right? Do you not think he'd waive the NMC a second time to go play for a true contender? My guess is he would. No matter who retains, he's making 10.5 per. So go play for a winner, all you have to do is waive to do it.
Then he could do that any time. He doesn’t have to do it during an expansion draft.

Really? For price at 50% retained?
the post you replied to saying carolina would be interested said price at 7.5 million, not 50%.

he had a great run in the playoffs, but he has been pretty average for years. his performance over his last few seasons says he isn't worth 7.5.

fwiw, his contract term and age (to me) mean he isn't worth spending assets on at 50% - maybe if the contract wasn't buyout-proof.

Might make it more stomach churning for Habs fans. Watching Carey Price, who is so well loved and many want to see win a Stanley Cup, go down with the rival team. It’s a combination of uncomfortable, cringeworthy, and awkwardness.

Overall it’s unrealistic but just the thought of Seattle entering the league and creating immediate chaos is entertaining lol

Impossible to do and most likely the reason why Bergevin left Price unprotected. If Montreal left Allen unprotected, Seattle could potentially flip him for a high draft pick. Currently Price comes at a 10.5M cap hit (Francis said cap space was the biggest currency they had) and a NMC so Seattle can’t flip him for assets after picking him unless Price waives again which is highly unlikely.

With Price being left unprotected, it seems every single Seattle’s options from Montreal are high salary players that aren’t worth their contract. Bergevin would be more than happy to get Drouin or Byron’s contract off the books for free and get cap flexibility. Worst case scenario, Kulak gets taken and we save 1.85M for a guy who didn’t even have a regular roster spot during the off-season. Smart move from Bergy

Claim him, retain him at 50% and send him back to MTL for a premium.

That’s agains the NHL expansion draft rules. It would be nixed by the league

-No guarantee he waives.
-No contending team have 10.5 M of capspace free.
-The list of teams Price would be willing to go would likely be very small so that would hurt his trade value a lot.

Seattle will only pick Price if they want him to play for their team.

What if Seattle wanted Price all along?

They pretended like they wanted Allen and set the asking price to not take him so high that Bergevin would expose Price instead.

It may have been a 5D chess move by Seattle to get them to expose Price:sarcasm:

Price being expose, I,ve said it NUMEROUS time, was a win-win.

Habs keep most of their good guy.

If he gets taken, Bergervin starts a rebuild for 2022 and 2023 top picks, MTL would aim at Wright BEdard Michkov Savoie etc... Easilly being a bottom 5 team and let the kids play. Now with Weber gone, makes it that easier

Price loves WSH state, spends his summer there, and leaves MTL circus, win for him.

Bottom line Totally genius, works PERFECTLY with Habs plan. Now let's just hope he leaves so we free ton of cap space, and aim at Wright and Michkov / Bedard

I would love to have Carey Price on the Pens, even at full price song long as we can Kucherov him during the season and then bring him back for the playoffs.

Toronto, Ontario
Step 1: Seattle drafts Price in expansion
Step 2: Seattle trades Price to Toronto at 50% retention
Step 3: Seattle watches the world burn

As much as I'm on team chaos in the real world I would be very sad here as Price in a leafs Jersey would look so wrong.

Good thing he has an NMC and prbly wouldn't waive to go to TO similar to Gorges

A lot of people are saying that this would be against the rule. What they can do is trade a few draft picks so that Seattle select Kulak or Drouin instead.
