Bastian is by far the best defensive forward on BMW line and in our bottom six.

Bastian is exceptionally good at playing defense.

McLeod is an energetic forechecker, and great at FO, but he doesn’t really have great defensive awareness.

I wish he did, it would be great for us, but he just doesn’t. Bastian was great defensively in this game and the rest of his line not so much.

And as much I don’t see the point on getting in on the Wood bashing, he drags that line down defensively because of his lack of defensive awareness. Particularly in our end and around the net. That was issue this game too.

Eventually the choice has to be made between the energy/ physicality/ offensive pop Wood brings on that line vs improving it defensively.

We need more of a shutdown line and the BMW ain’t it as constructed.

If a player isn't the best defender vut he actually pushes offense most of the time they are out on the ice than that's all that really matters with your top line players. You have to score goals to win hockey games , that's why 3rd line players don't play 20 us minutes a night.
