Not saying he would sign with the Islanders but it seems like if he was picking based on city, NY pretty high up on his list so that probably is 1 thing the Islanders can hold over another team if they giving equal offers(save the Rangers)

I believe his contract was structured so he gets 1M a season BUT he gets a big payout every July 1. In the event of a buyout the Islanders still owe him the bonuses. If his buyout didn't have to factor in bonuses, Islanders easily could trade him to a team that couldn't care much about the cap for a guy with a lesser bad contract for like 2-3 years + decent sweetner but not a big oneand they could buy him out

Not sure, conflicting info from Russia but it seems he was only making 5.5 m converted to USD so 6m might actually be an overpayment. Might be what it takes though. I wouldn't offer him 4 years. Most i'd do is three.

Didn't he kind of sort of abandon the Devils after 3 years and hang around in the KHL just long enough to attain UFA status? He was also the captain of the Russian 2015 Worlds team who waved his team off the ice before the Canadian anthem after they got pumped 6-1. Who needs him!

He'll retire in less than four years. Probably a deal for one or two years.

His replacement would likely cost more than the cap savings.

The only way out is to get Seattle to take him.
