How long will Habs fans keep this thread about a guy they don't care about going? Inquiring minds want to know?
About as long as we would have had to hear about how Carolina sniped a top 6 center from the Habs because of their bumbling, French, general manager.

Things will likely slow down during the last couple years if kotkaniemis contract, so 2028 -2029 ish?

The Canes mocking us made this personal. How do you not understand that? They can mock us after what they felt was stealing a good young player from us, but we can't laugh at them when the player fails and they wasted important cap space and assets on him? News flash: the Canes were GOOD before they got KK, so that comment means nothing. He hasn't moved the needle for them at all. In fact, the argument can be made that he hurt the team. Karma.

The offer sheet made Trochek expendable. The guy who recorded 64 and 77 points for the Rangers the past 2 seasons for a cap hit of 5.625 million . Plays 20 minutes a night.

Kotkaniemi was much cheaper. 4.82m per year. 805k savings frees up enough cap space for almost an entire ELC.

The production isn't quite at Trocheks level, 43 and 27 points the past 2 seasons but the real benefit is that he only plays 14 minutes a night so that frees up ice time for the good players on the canes to play more.

If anyone has a short memory: this was just from one day.

From the offer sheet week:

That cap space is so important it has held the Canes back every year since they signed him. Something like top 5 in the league in win percentage every year since and finished way back in, checks records the 3rd best record in the league this year. Also prevented them from making trades and the TDL holding them back where they could only sign the top forward at the trade deadline.

Again I have said yes he is under performing and his numbers suck, but if you actually watch the Canes and not just the score sheet he plays a pretty defensive responsible game and is actually physical. Getting points would be nice but neither him nor his contract have held the Canes back in any way shape or form so far. When and if it does he is a super cheap buy out, which by the way also makes his an attractive trade piece.

I remember when Habs fans on this site were talking about him as an elite 2-way center and comparing him to Eichel and even Matthews. Good times.

It's not like Habs fans didn't act like total dickheads during that crappy Aho offer sheet.

It’s much more likely your team moves to Quebec than the other way around.
With 100.6% attendance this year and 20 year lease signed next year, the owner buying nearby buildings to continue his plan, and a FO committed to spending to win I doubt that. Also if QC was ever going to get another team the Yotes wouldn't be going to Utah.
