Death August 12, and week and a half later it's news. Guessing they wanted results of autopsy before any obituary/announcement.

Unusual, but not that out of the ordinary.

I had a great aunt die more than a decade ago and her kids did not want to have memorial service or even a graveside service for family. But they aren't religious, so may not see the reason to do so. (But my parents and aunt/uncle were not happy with the decision as they would have liked opportunity for family reminiscing or a wake.)

I know of a few folks who have passed and the memorial service is months after the death (due to other family commitments/travel). (I have an uncle close to death but in part because my cousin is stuck somewhere after heart attack, any service is planned for October.)
