So now we're complaining about trading 5th round picks? And I don't care about league averages when it comes to goalies , the only thing I care about is the Oilers success when picking them and other than Dubnyk way back in 2004, we haven't had any luck at all picking goalies lower down in the draft but kept doing it when we did draft them. Where was Dubnyk taken? Mid first ! Time to stop doing what hasn't been working !

And i agreed with the Oilers taking a highly regarded forward McLeod. Fans sometimes complain that the Oilers don't take the BPA but when we do fans howl because they didn't take their personal favorites. Never change Oiler fans! o_O

The last statement doesn’t make any sense though.... McLeod wasn’t necessarily BPA. I’m ok with the pick, but Akil Thomas was the highest rated player on my board. That’s the thing about BPA, and fans saying you have to take BPA, but get mad when they take someone else...BPA is subjective. Different scouts/posters/gm’s Etc have a different idea of who that player might be.

In the end, it will take several years to prove who was right and who was wrong, just have to hope that we end up on the right side of more of these decisions than not....and to the trading of 2 for 1 draft picks, that’s the argument that was being made. Are you better off trading two assets for one, or taking two swings? Again, no right answer here, just preference.

Is trading up for Rodrigue the right thing to do, or should we have stood pat, and drafted Skarek and say Blade Jenkins...

For me it’s all about tiering the draft. I actually like Skarek more than Rodrigue, but would say they were in the same tier of prospects. I also would have had Annunen in that tier. Because I have them all in the same tier, I wouldn’t trade assets to move up because I like my chances of getting one of those guys in that tier without moving up. That’s the debate. No one is right or wrong at this point, but doing it two years in a row is at the very least a questionable move for a team that lacks depth in their prospect system.

BPA is general or overwhelming consensus which has been proven over time not to be an exact science (ie Yakupov etc.) Fans worst fault is hindsight.
