    KIMMO TIMONEN HISTORY
    philadelphia-flyers-defenseman-kimmo-timonen.jpg

13,800,000,000 BC -- March 18: The Big Bang occurs. An incredibly hot soup of proto-particles begins to expand, cool, and coalesce into matter and Kimmo Timonen.

11,375,000,000 BC -- Oct 14: Kimmo Timonen grows bored. He has an idea for a game he names "hockey", and begins detonating stars to create iron and carbon for skates, and oxygen to pair with hydrogen to create water. He waits.

800 AD -- Dec. 25: Kimmo Timonen is crowned as the first Holy Roman Emperor. While he is honored to be named Captain, he immediately declines to hand the C over to Charlemagne (which translates to "Claude Giroux" in modern French.)

1439 -- September 3: Anticipating a potential need to print a contract before he can sign with the Philadelphia Flyers in six centuries, Kimmo Timonen invents the printing press to make things easier.

1642 -- July 1: Kimmo Timonen invents lemonade.

1749 -- February 29: Kimmo Timonen alters the flow of time to achieve a Feb. 29 on a non-leap year. He then spends the day raising Finland from the sea, as he felt the need for a homeland.

1804 -- Feb 21: The first steam locomotive attempts to carry a cargo of pucks past Kimmo Timonen. He rides it hard into the boards. One of the pucks bounces loose and still manages to roll past Michael Leighton's ancestor. The disastrous foreshadowing of this event makes all dinosaurs go extinct from dread.

1914-1918: Kimmo Timonen single-handedly digs every trench used by all combatants in WWI to prepare for his NHL debut.

1974 -- November 12: Kimmo Timonen fashions a stick for Bobby Clarke out of the petrified remains of the Forbidden Tree of Eden. This very stick was used to shatter Kharlamov's ankle. It is now responsible for generating 79% of the electricity used in North America.

2007 -- June 24th: Kimmo Timonen is acquired by the Philadelphia Flyers. This event is so monumentally joyful that all dinosaurs are resurrected instantaneously. A time of great fortune and wonder occurs for next 8 years as humankind enters a golden age that sees us colonizing distant planets and evolving the ability to fly with the power of our minds.

2010 -- June 9: Kimmo Timonen rides Patrick Kane towards the boards in a textbook defensive play. A terrible angle shot gets past Michael Leighton. All dinosaurs once again die from despair and the shining utopia of Atlantis sinks beneath the ocean, setting humanity back millennia.

2015 -- February 27: The golden age turns to a tarnished husk; the dreams of humanity, so badly damaged in 2010, crumble into ash and fading echoes.

Got to see his 100th career goal vs Buffalo in person.

Such an underrated player. He should be in the Flyers HOF in due time.

Will edit my avatar to support Kimmo. I always could trust him in every situation, one of the best all around D-men I have had the chance to watch. I hope we somehow bring him back (despite our notorious reputation of bringing everyone back, Kimmo deserves it).

Thanks for the compliments guys, but MSE deserves the lion's share of credit since I shamelessly stole (and butchered lol, those GDTs have a lot going on under the hood) one of his posts.

Timonen is an all-time favorite player of mine, in fact I think I have him tied with or ahead of Giroux. I believe we are all quite fortunate to have had the chance to watch Timonen play and lead for 7 seasons, and I hope he gets that Cup in Chicago. Few players deserve it as much as he does.

I'm gonna crawl back into my den of sadness to finish adding him to my fresco of LeClair and Desjardins now.

Came to the team when I was 10 and just starting to be a hardcore flyers fan. Was great to watch a player like Kimmo as I grew up. Class on and off the ice someone who could be a role model for everyone

He waits.

  • Most greatest post in the history of hfboards. Which means it must have been written by Kimmo Timonen.

bittersweet day for me for sure. I didn't think it was going to happen honestly. The selfish part of me wanted him to go out on his skates as a Flyer and retire as a Flyer. Nothing but love and respect for one of the best defenseman to ever put on that Flyer sweater. I am going to miss him. Wish him the best and hope he can win a Cup in Chicago.

Loved him. I hope he gets his number retired.

Go hawks

Don't think that'll happen. He didn't win a cup here, and I don't think he gets into the HHoF, which seems to be the requirement to have your number immortalized here. He may get it retired in smashville.

Great post Beef!

I was looking forward to seeing Kimmo make his return tonight but at least he will come back for a game in March.

It will be hard to cheer for the Hawks to win the Cup but someone has to win it so hopefully the best looking Finnish hockey player does.

I wish Kimmo nothing but the best and hope that he will get that cup he desires... that of course if the Flyers dont make the playoffs.... Cant even imagine what he is going through. Amazing story written by Pascal Dupuis who is going through the same type of thing. Absolute MUST read if you haven't already http://www.theplayerstribune.com/in-my-blood/

He won't get his number retired, because he won't get into the Hall of Fame, but he'll get his run around the legends honoree circuit with a night next year and later the Flyers Hall of Fame.
