Didn't get a chance to watch the game, but having Nordstrom play the most forward minutes as a center, really? Signing Gilmour for a foreigner spot and playing him for 7 minutes....This is mindboggling for the team with such financial ability as CSKA

Well Nordstrom thing, for one, makes sense. Nobody plays 8 years in the NHL for no reason.

as a first line center? REALLY? They couldn't go for someone like Ceglarik? To me Walstrom makes a lot more sense than Nordstrom.
1/3 surnames correct, that's a start, I guess

Cehlarik isn't some kind of superstar just because he scored 4 points in his debut game. I don't know how the guy who spent 8 years in the NHL is all of the sudden considered worse than the guy who didn't make it at all and scored 0,8 PPG in the SHL, was 3rd on his SHL team in scoring and got outscored by Hrivik whom we do know as a fairly unspectacular player from his Vityaz days. I don't really understand why do you hate this Nordstrom signing so much while praising getting someone like Cehlarik who is, by all means, a fairly mediocre European pro. It just seems like "the other kid's toys are shinier than mine" kind of thing.

Regarding Wallmark, his ceiling should ultimately be higher, I agree, but many coaches prefer to play those defensive centers in the close games between two big teams as much as possible, that's not exactly news. That's why Andronov or Kamenev constantly get to play more than Vey, for example.

24 to go... :sarcasm:

That's a good start but seriously, playing with Guslistov and Geraskin he's not going to get to 30..

Cehlarik was expected to deliver in the KHL, everybody who follows hockey and knows that he was just a tid bit short of making a bruins top-6 (he is just useless in the bottom 6). Again Nordrstrom is a defensvie NHL fringe player, who hasn't played on top lines (there were some experiments in Boston, when B's were really hurt and injured and struggling) and never delivered offensively. Even Lindholm in my mind has more offensive upside.

And what's wrong with Guslistov and Geraskin? both are solid hockey players.

This is the first time I see Shostak letting in an early goal and not deflating like a balloon, so Belarus might actually have a goalie. Can't tell whether Severstal looks good or SKA is that bad, but Severstal deserves to win this one.

Shouldn't you at least wait for him to deliver then? Because the way I see it, many guys were expected to deliver and didn't. He's no sure thing.

Regarding Guslistov and Geraskin, define "solid". Yeah, they are good for ~20 points, that was kind of the point.

Geraskin is very talented, his issue is size.
I agree in general on Cehlarik, but he almost made the bruins, certainly got plenty chances, he is just tad bit not good enough. This translates (usually) well in the KHL.
Norsdtrom in Boston almost never played center is a defensive specialist pk guy. These guys usually just translate into much of the same, no matter the level (pro of course)

I love the first few games of a new season, cuz there's always a few decent upsets. Vityaz beat Torpedo 6-3 tonight in Nizhny Novgorod. It was 2-0 early for Vityaz, but Torpedo came back to tie it up, but Vityaz pulled away in the third. Fun game to watch.

Amur looked awful against Sochi. Loko got down 2-0 to Riga before coming back to win. Spartak beats Admiral easily, but don't think you can make too much out of that. And Severstal played SKA tough tonight, before giving up a 2-1 third period lead to lose 3-2.

Good to have the K back. Go Sibir!

I believe Cehlarik remains Bruin property so anything is possible...

Didn't see the game but the shot clock shows 36-18 in Amur's favor, couldn't have been that bad.

I was watching other games as well, so this game didn't have my full attention, and they did have 2 goals wiped out by replay review, so my assessment may be a little harsher than it should have been. That being said, Sochi did appear to play much better than Amur in this game, but I will retract my assessment of "awful".

One other note from yesterday. I watched a bit of the SKA-Severstal game, and noticed that they must have done a major upgrade on the arena lighting. Was nice watching a game that didn't look like it was being played in a dungeon.

Explains the roster quality, probably that's where the salary budget went :sarcasm:

Pilipenko and Sochi on fire so far. Former VHL superstar with 5 points in 4 periods so far. Sochi with 8 goals on 25 shots. They are that good, I guess

So I wonder what will it take to fire Peters this year. SYu and Magnitka should be prime opponents for Avto when it comes to standings yet both those teams are just outclassing them at home.
