WAIT!

So if Slovan's 9975 average attendance(iihf) was an average of 25 euro per seat, the club is actually profitable.

Also, SKA is not even the highest on the list

Maybe this embarrassing information is why Ak-Bars is dumping its players left and right, and not signing huge players.

it is further interesting that the league's clubs spend a total of over 1/3 of a billion euros. I wonder how other leagues compare...
It is also a very inflated number IMO due to the foreigner limit. At the same time it shows that profitability for clubs is a lot more within reach than people think.

Releasing these numbers is a huge step in the right direction :handclap:

Homework for last 10 clubs to reach at least 10 mil euro/season/salaries.

PS: Would be great to make thread at The Business of Hockey. Spektanto made tables, so can you start the thread?

Can you please tell what's "embarassing" about having the highest payroll in the league? It's not like AkBars is missing the playoffs annually with that payroll.

That must be last seasons salaries correct? BTW Slovan and Kazan both shocking.

What's shocking?

AkBars signed a number of high priced(aged) free agents recently(and is now parting ways with them) all additionally to the already well paid stars on the team. Those are always expensive. Just as an example: current Letang salary is $3,5 Mil, Paul Martin is getting 5. Of course it will change once Latang gets a new contract, but then he will fall exactly into that category above. The absolute number is still not even comparable to an NHL team.

Slovan was a first year team. The only notable name(if you go by the names) on the roster was Satan. Of course they were not able to pay more. But the have the benefit of being in fact the top slovakian team. So they concentrated talent from one country(which is a formidable force internationally). It's far more interesting how this situation will develop. Will they try to get more expensive players or stay the "All Slovakian Team" in the KHL with less money but a lot of pride.

I don't think the Slovan numbers are shocking at all. Especially for their Slovakian players. I mean if you earn 100,000 euros in Slovakia it is 10 times more worth than if you earn the same money in Germany. :naughty:

PS:

And regarding Ak Bars. At least they have a very balanced salary for all their players. So there should be little trouble with players who feel underpaid.

PPS:

Are the salary numbers net income? In Germany average player gets 100,000€ gross which is about 50,000€ net.

They benefit from having a Slovak roster. They don't have to overpay for their players.

By those numbers they should have raked in around 7mill euros in ticket rev. Operating expenses should mostly be negated by sponsorship and merchandise revenues Im assuming. They should have made around a couple mill euros profit. Very interesting, I am an accountant in training, I would love to see their financial statements.. Are they made publicly available?

nothing is available. According to statements in press, Slovan had overall budget around 10-11 mil.euro.

There is one weird thing which I dont understand. According to statements in press (this week by Shalaev f.e.), minimal salary cap (floor??) should be 250 mil rubles. How is it possible that 5 teams spent less than that??

so teams in the ball-park on 900mil can actually be above and beyond, that's what, kid

and that's because you think so or do you actually have proof outside the seemingly inerradicable belief everyone is corrupt in Russia?

P.S. I doubt your age qualifies you for that form of address, kid.

Isn't it what I wrote? Only I was more specific. By your logic they could sign Chara and Hossa for the next season. They are slovak too, you know.

Also there is no such thing as overpaying or underpaying. It's a business. Player's rights have some market value at some point in time. Of course starting from the sctratch in the KHL Slovan had a pretty strong position offering slovak players a chance to earn maybe only a bit more than before, but to play in a more competitive league having more chances to showcase themselves, earn NT spots and all that playing at home in Slovakia. Let's see how that changes with time.
