I started watching the Devils during the Gary Thorne/Peter McNabb days. I still liked the Emrick/McNabb combo best. I find Chico way too annoying for my taste. Too much schtick, too many mistakes.

I was at the game and didn't hear Dano's period, but he tends to talk way too fast. Hopefully he can get that under control.

Would love to see Randy Velischek back, he was my trainer for hockey when he was announcing for the Devils. Great guy.

lol dude i don't really give a damn about the eye candy factor, sherry seems like a legit fan and is sassy as hell she'd be funny on TV. deb has been doing interviews and all that **** for YEARS and still sounds like a second year broadcast major from a state school, the intermissions are sometimes painful to watch.

Well I'm glad you don't give a damn about the eye candy factor(neither do I) but the Network DOES and that's why Sherry is doing RADIO while Deb is on the air.

It is what it is.

I wouldn't want to listen to Holik's voice for three hours a night...but he'd be GREAT in the Don Cherry intermission role. An edgier version of Stan during the Matt and the Maven days.

He might welcome the switch back to hockey actually. Fewer games to cover and less travel. I would like that.

I don't know why Thorne isn't doing hockey, I guess baseball's his passion or he's being paid really well by the O's...people always got on him for butchering names (which he did) but I always attributed part of that to his insane schedule between doing hockey and baseball at the same time for ESPN. Anyone would butcher names if they had to do THAT much at once.

Yeah covering multiple sports and multiple teams within those sports will leave a few international names going through the buzz saw. If he had a home team to learn inside out and just had to learn the opponents names on game day without calling other sports in between I'm sure he'd be clean up what few mistakes he made.

I'll miss Chico, he's such a great guy. I really liked what I heard from Dano doing it in the Boston game, it sounds like he did alright last night too.

If it's true Chico retires after this season, then bringing in Dano is the perfect transition. From one passionate guy to another.

Well put. Really going to miss Chico, but Kenny is a logical replacement. I didn't like Daneyko in a studio role the first year or two, but he worked hard and improved a lot and even if he struggles at first doing play-by-play, I think he'd be a good fit long-term. Would be great if Chico went to a reduced role next season (maybe just home & local games if he doesn't like the travel) and work Daneyko in as a replacement.

Just imagine how more exciting these Devils games would be if Gary Thorne had been the one who replaced Doc and not Cangy.

No offense to Steve because he's done a solid job and grown into the role but Gary is closer to Doc's LEVEL than Steve will ever be.

Love the "Don Cherry Intermission Role" idea for Holik, though.

I must admit Kenny is getting better and is it me or have we had good second periods since he made his debut on retro night ?

I would prefer Sherry Ross on TV and Dano on the radio. She's earned the job and I would like it if the Devils made a bold move like that.

Use Chico to wander around the arena during home games and talk to fans/vendors/celebs. Call it "Taste of the Game with Chico". That's where he shines. That way he's still around and it would reduce his workload and travel.

I love Dano but his hoarse, droning voice is just awful for broadcasting. By the time he gets to the end of his long train of thought he trails off into an inaudible mumble. I honestly can't decipher what he's saying sometimes. I like him more in small doses.

Considering that Dolan(who owns MSG, remember?) probably won't go for having basically a Grandma(you've seen what Sherry looks like, right?) on the air calling games, I doubt we'd see Sherry on the air anytime soon.

Though I would love to see this just to show that the MSG Network only value TALENT over LOOKS, I fear that's not what the reality is. :(

Dolan would sooner have Deb Placey call games because she's better Eye-Candy, I bet.

It is what it is. :dunno:

She probably doesn't wear much makeup for her radio appearances.

On the other hand, Chico (bless his heart) has what appears to be roadkill on his head.

I didn't mind Steve at first, but lately he's been very redundant. Does he have to meet a quota with the word "hammered"? If you guys ever need a good drinking game, try drinking every time he says that. You'll be wasted by the time he uses his "a hop, skip and a jump" phrase for the second time.

I've been trying to tune Chico out for years. He's a great guy, but I can't stand his optimism when they're playing like crap.

I think Dano will be good after some more practice. I definitely like his insights and game break downs. You could tell he took speech classes and I'm sure he'll get better as he gets more comfortable. These broadcasts need some pragmatism.
