Habs are rebuilding, don't trade our first, Ottawa can probably do a lot better as well.

Sounds crazy but here is the proposal

Sens trade: Karlsson and Bobby Ryan

Habs Trade: Weber , Pacioretty, Mete and First round pick in 2019 draft

Terrible for Habs- retain on weber but no retention on Ryan? Crappy teams should not tarde their 1st round pick. Change Ryan for Duschene and let Habs extend both I'd consider it with no salary retention on Weber and lottery protection on the 1st.

over 30 million on 2dmen and a goalie. that can never be all on the ice at the same time except for pp's

I would probably do this as a Sens fan. Trade Weber and Patches separately after, end up with a bunch of picks, Mete, and a lottery pick in 2019.

Not great for Ottawa either. Who the **** wants Shea Weber? 32 and 8 more years on that deal? That’s brutal.
Actually it's exactly the type of deal Melnyk loves, the cap hit allows him to reach the cap floor but the actually salary being paid out continues to drop so he saves actual dollars.

That’s true, but it’s for eight more years. Do you really want Weber when he’s 37,38?

I guess it depends on what the Sens could get in flipping Weber and Pacioretty, really. Karlsson >>> Weber, but Weber isn't an impending UFA looking for $11M on a new deal. And as much as we slam on Weber, you just know there are GM types who would still love to get him. Pacioretty >>> Ryan, plus you can flip him for a real futures return, he's not negative value like Ryan. Probably a 1st bare minimum.

2019 1st from the Habs would be like a new #LoseForHughes lottery ticket to insure against the one Colorado has.

So anyway it really comes back to what you could get flipping Weber. You already got at least 2 1sts (one a top-5) and Mete, plus rid of Ryan's contract. That sounds pretty good relative to most threads here. Getting something solid for Weber could be the real icing on the cake if there are GMs out there who are still salivating over him. IF. The crucial IF.
