Keep him around until next year, he's depth in case of injury. They have the cap space and will save about 1.5 mil burying him in the minors. He will pass by waivers when he gets demoted after a call up but chances he gets picked are slim to none. Worst case, some team grabs him for free and he becomes their problem. If he doesn't report to Laval, the contract gets terminated and it's no ones problem.

Of course he will be willing to play in the AHL this entire season.

He was healthy scratch the entire playoff and got called to get a homerun deal in Montreal. He for sure gonna play that contract that fell from the sky.
I still think he's easily tradeable into a team like Detroit/Ottawa for a 2nd + a 3rd.

Unless he go Robidas Island , But it's hard to go on Robidas Island when you are not playing hockey.
Nobody will pay a pick for Alzner, the Habs might have to add a second to trade him, just because he becomes someone's else issue.

Clearly something bad has happened between Alzner and the Habs. Sounds like Alzner is willing to stick it to the Habs to pay him full money even if it means him playing in the AHL.
No issues there. The Habs bury him in the minors, he counts for about 3.5 mil on the cap. The Habs have cap space and the player gets paid. He gets called up in case of injury and has to clear waivers. If a team would like to give him another shot, they can grab him for free.
