I'm currently in Finland and there was an interview with J.J. where he said that he had multiple offers but he chose the Oilers as they met all of his criteria. He didn't say what all they were but did mention the Oilers offered him a shot at the cup and he wanted to play with McDavid. He also doesn't mind leaving Florida to have the chance to play in Canada in a hockey crazy market. He said he was an Oiler fan growing up. He also mentioned that Jere Lehtinen was his mentor in Dallas and taught Jokinen everything he (Jokinen) knew. He in turn served as a mentor in Florida to Barkov and part of the reason he was brought on was to do the same for Puljujarvi.

It all sounded positive. I would say this signing means Puljujarvi will start on the main club next year to utilize Jokinen as a mentor.

If it's true Jokinen is very good at understanding the nuances of NHL system play this will be great for Pulju. I'm sure a lot of details were lost in translation last year.

Excellent player playing for pennies, brings everything we need to the table and his attitude toward the Oilers is very encouraging. I love this deal!

I like how in the sports world we view $1,100,000 as pennies

Life changing money really. If you hit that on Saturdays lottery I doubt your friends would call it pennies. Well, a lot of pennies actually!!

My dad once told an old friend that has long since passed if he'd help count his money if he won the lottery, the friend said yes until my dad said "what if it's paid in pennies!"

Good signing for you guys.

He doesn't have the wheels anymore but is super smart. A true pro/mentor and stood up for the young guys in Florida when push came to shove. Overall a great player to have around.

He could've played in the Olympics this year too, so the fact that he signed for little shows that he's still dedicated to the NHL.

Good to see a cheap veteran winger on a small deal. Hope there's at least one more of these in the cards.

We're at 49/50 now. Does Drai's upcoming new extension count as 50? If not, I wouldn't be surprised if Chiarelli makes another depth move.

Would sadly cost us Draisaitl ..

Doubt the Panthers would do that deal. Allegedly they've got a $65M budget this year and are basically already at it. Drai coming in at a 1-2 million more than Barkov would kill any such deal.

Also not so sure Drai is actually better than Barkov even if contracts are discounted.

Woops, my bad. So that would make it 48/50 with all of those 3 to be signed eh? I wonder if Pirri is still an option since Stauffer was mentioning him over the previous weeks.

50 contract limit is so annoying! We're up against it every year and it seems to paralyze the org from doing stuff.

League needs to up it to 55 :) Then I can whine about 55 not being enough when we're up against that every year.

Time to trade for Barkov!

Also is "Juicy" his actual nickname?

Some people call him that... But it makes no sense because the Finnish j is pronounced as y. So his first name could be said to be "Yussi" which is nothing like juice.
