Didn't see the whole game, it was 5-1 when I tuned out, but looks like it went down to the wire. Nice work bp!

Tulo and Pillar look lost at the plate. Pillar is back to his old self

It's horrible he is somehow still our leadoff man.

Why is it horrible that Pillar is the leadoff man? He's fast and can steal bases, his on base % age is good, he's got the essentials that most teams would only dream of for that position.

What? His OBP is barely above .300. That's not really that good for anybody. Nobody would dream of Pillar being their leadoff hitter.

Horrible because his on base percentage is far from good and is dropping like a rock. The ability to steal bases is great, but you have to get there consistently first.

hoglund was joking.

not upset about pillar in leadoff because he did deserve it at a time when we really needed it, and even now there's no clear fit for that spot.

that being said he has to be dropped down soon.

at the risk of screwing up a good thing with smoak i think i'm ready to see something like this:

1.Martin
2.Donaldson
3.Smoak
4.Bautista
5.Morales
6.Pearce
7.Tulowitzki
8.Pillar
9.goins/barney

so we have +$211,000 depending on the 2 unknowns. If you save money it has to be to pay overslot for other picks right? you don't get to keep the money I hope

The other three are all likely under slot as well, how much so is to to be determined. No one can force you to spend the money, so they could obviously pocket it, but that isn't why they were saving it LOL. They probably banked an extra ~$450-500K to spend, the question is whether any of that needs to go to pay Pearson or Danner over slot. If not, they've got enough to make one decent-ish overslot signing in the later rounds, or ~two smaller over slot deals.

Pretty much how i see it.

Warmoth should get slot or below. Pearson was rumored to have a deal with the Jays prior to the draft at the 22nd pick but the Jays took him 28th. I expect Pearson to get slot at the very least and potentially more. Danner is the darkhorse for me; i bet he signs at slot or more being that he is a HS player and has options plus he is a catcher and a pitcher so he could potentially threat to go to college. That being said he should probably sign.

And like you said they should have enough savings to sign 1 or 2 over slot deals later from the draft.

I've always been curious as to why Gibby has Donaldson batting 2nd and Bautista 3rd. Wouldn't it make more sense with Bautista's high on base %, to have Donaldson follow him in the line up?

I mean, if Donaldson is still batting 2nd, then sure.

I'd be okay with that. My concern was that Donaldson seems to be coming up to bat with no men on base. While Bautista always seems to have someone on base for him. I don't have stats to back me up. Just from watching the games.

I thought Large was going to go under slot too, but maybe it was everyone after round 5 (i.e. 6-10) they said was going under slot.

For not getting on base much, he has 10 stolen bases and is on pace of 24 for the season, most leadoff hitters would be happy with those stats.

24 stolen bases in 600+ plate appearances...wow, that makes him the quintessential lead-off man for sure! Just look past his career .304 OBP .

Martin - 2B and C
Donaldson - 3B
Bautista - RF
Morales - DH
Smoak - 1B
Pearce - LF
Tulo - SS
Maile - C or Goins 2B
Pillar - CF

Does Martin block balls anymore or does he only try to pick them?

Why not Pearce at the top? Lifetime .333 OBP. A whole lot better than Pillar.

What about Dwight Smith Jr.? If nobody is a perfect fit, why not try someone unproven? Has a pretty good slash line for the Jays in a limited showing, has some speed, even has some pop. Best thing is he has a .364 OBS in AAA this year.

It took him some time, but he's starting to finally look good enough to stick around full time.
