Josh is going to 31 in 6 weeks ,is from Ontario, and was a top 10 pick.

865 games played
154goals
322 assists
476 points
————————-

Player X just turned 31 ,is from Ontario, and was also a top 10 pick.
844 games
164 goals
295 assists
459 points

Who is player X ? Try to guess without looking up the players by age or points .
He is still active
Similar in many ways to Bailey.
While Bailey will be in the Isles HOF this player will be in no HOF.
I would not want him on this team but I believe we had HF fans that wanted him on our team 5 years ago or more .

Atkinson?

well let’s just say you win because at least you guessed . Sam Gagner is the answer . Career stats almost identical to our guy . If we had Sam instead of Josh would he be an Islanders HOF player ? If Josh was anywhere else would he be pretty much out of the league ? I know , I know , Josh has sooo much hockey sense and is always in position defensively and that means a lot too.

How about you look a little closer at their comparative stats - how about seeing how each player has progressed in their careers - here are accumulated stats post 25 years old or post 27 years of age?

Well, more the difference is that Josh has 170 points over the last 3 seasons and Gagner has 57. Also, Gagner has 4 career playoff points (11 games), whereas Bailey has 10 points in 9 games just this year. Pretty easy to see why one is held in notably higher regard and pretty hard to say they should currently be viewed as comparable players, without even needing to look beyond points. Which remains true even if Gagner did score at a higher pace than Bailey did at the start of their careers.

So the top row is years 25 and 26? How’d they fit so many games in 2 years?

Wasn’t Gagner strictly an offensive player? Don’t recall watching him much but I’m pretty sure they’re 2 very different players.

Either way I think what makes Bailey a bigger deal to Isles fans is his story. The development or lack-thereof in the beginning. Playing in JT’s shadow and quickly becoming the team scapegoat.

Suddenly it’s “hey Bailey actually looks like an NHLer”, and then “hey Bailey looks like he could be a solid middle six player”, then “hey Bailey could actually be a complimentary top-six player”, then “holy shit Bailey is actually pretty freaking good”.

All the while the guy just goes out there and does his thing. Never got down when the fans were on him. Kept working and kept improving. Suddenly he’s our longest tenured player. Gotta respect it.

I’d be more than content if Bailey spends his entire career here. Dude bleeds orange and blue.

A lot of chatter around Bailey being traded...
Do you mean like general chatter about the possibility, or chatter today about an actual trade?

He is one of, if not the only, highly paid guys on the team with no NTC.

Maybe Cheveldayoff thinks Josh is a C.

Or, how about Bailey and Mayfield for Marner?

I knew Bailey was gonna be trade bait one day. Patience is a virtue.
Let's trade him for Luke Schenn, Nikita Filatov, Colin Wilson and Michael Boedker!!

[the 4 guys drafted immediately ahead of him]

During these playoffs he was a top performer of these Islanders and arguably their best forward. Good thing no one with any control of this team traded Bailey over the 7 years some of you hacks have been pining for.

I guess you dont watch the regular season?
