After seeing some of these contracts this offseason, I assume he's asking for a tanker-full of cash.

I'll pretty much say what I said in the Jays topic

When management has the perception of being cheap, you can say stuff like this and be fully supported by the fanbase.

If he played for, say, Detroit, everyone would just laugh at him.

They, for sure, won't be out of the race by the deadline but just imagine what they could get for Bautista and Edwin. They better resign Donaldson than Bautista. He's pretty good player but on the very wrong side of the age.

He's due for a big raise. That goes without saying.

That said, if you're not trying to negotiate, you're not a good GM.

Making anything out of this is making a mountain out of a molehill. He'll retire a bluejay.

Bautista's last contract was a downright steal so he deserves his payday.

The fact he made it known what it'd take to get it done is encouraging. Tells me he likes it there and wants to stay.

First quote is such ********. All he had on his resume when his 5 years extension came up was 1 good year. 12M/yr was more than reasonable.

At the time seemed reasonable but looking at that contract today the Jays got a $1 worth on 50 cent investment.

Yeah but his inability to judge his worth in the past shouldn't be reflected on this contract.

Normally this is where I'd say 'I don't know how much of a market there will be for a 36 year old DH' but hell Boston will throw all the money at him (or Edwin) probably so it is a bit of a tough spot

No doubt the Jays also took a massive risk on Jose's last contract as he was coming of 1 good year but the fact remains is he's been underpaid and i don't blame him for chasing a payday.

i love this and pray it will finally end the notion of the "hometown discount". he's 35 and as murray said it's his last contract. why should he take less?

I'm with Joey Bats. The Jays have the money the pay him and he's been worth it. Dude deserves to get paid. I guess the only thing I'll say about this is that we don't know what he's asking. Assuming his number is reasonable the Jays should just get it done.

Actually this is the best quote: Jose Bautista don't believe in payroll and budget.

Joey Bats can certainly get 20 mil per year in a short term deal to DH.

If that what he wanted he'd be locked up already

Have to think he's looking at something in the 120/5 range.

This seems to be a passive aggressive trade request from Bautista. I assume he's asking for the moon and knows there is no way the Jays will sign him, leaving them only with the option of trading him.

I disagree, I think there is a good chance he is asking for an absurd amount that Toronto could never afford to pay him, and this just saves face.
