Seems to play a simple game. Has poise with the puck, doesn't panic. Seems more composed than Schultz ever was.

To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of this player prior to this most recent callup. He'd always struck me as someone who could skate and pass the puck, but was butter soft and very easy to play against.

Now though, the difference I see in him is that he at least looks willing to take a hit to make a play, something I hadn't seen from him previously. Playing with Davidson hasn't hurt him much either, they mesh well together.

Hope he can keep it up as this team's dying for someone who not only can skate the puck up ice, but pass it up too.

The best Jordan __erle on the team. :sarcasm:

He's been impressive. Definitely has some decent hockey sense.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

So many times I wonder who they are actually talking about. Doesn't help when the really Eberle is on the point on the PP.

He's been fine so far.
He looks incredibly amazing because he doesn't go crazy and crack under pressure like Schultz does with the puck.
We'll see what he's worth down the stretch.
Fingers crossed, of course.

Smart player, but ultimately lacks the size and strength to play at this level. Doesn't make up for it with any exceptional skills (agility, speed, playmaking, etc)

Anyway, I don't mean to be negative, but he is what he is. You sorta hope that he'll continue to have the drive and maybe be a reasonable fill-in for a contending team when he's in his late twenties and has his max strength to experience intersection point. Until then he should be in the AHL when we are healthy.

I think his upside is of a #6 at best. Probably will be a reliable call up that plays 20 games a season and can be leaned on for good play when he is

No issue in that

Not sure he's got the speed to make up for his lack of size to succeed at this level in a meaningful way.

But to his credit, his 2 games this year are 8 million times better than the handful of games he got last year.

I wouldn't have bothered tendering him a qualifying offer, not I'd look at signing him again for next season. If only to be good AHL depth.

Certainly has shown enough to be resigned as depth for the organization, but depending on where the cards fall when shuffled in the offseason, I doubt he has a spot on the NHL roster next year.

He better not (in a good way). But injuries happen all the time. Good to know to we potentially have a solid call up when the inevitable happens and we need him for 5-10 games

Skates really well, and doesn't appear to crumble under the pressure. He's also pretty smart with his pinches, and isn't afraid to take the puck in himself, or shoot it.

He and davidson have really complimented eachother well. Would be fantastic if he could develop into a bottom pairing guy that can chip in on offense on the PP or 5v5 in a few years.

Something I have noticed about Oesterle...

He reminds me a lot of Duncan Keith. Left shot, very similar build. Smallish defencemen with a very similar skating style. They both do not shy away from physical confrontation and seem to focus on being good at all areas of the game.

Taking a look at their career paths, it's uncanny. Oesterle played a year of junior, then three years of college, then to the AHL for the past two seasons.

Keith spent two years in junior, two years in college, and then to the AHL for two years.

Same ages, near identical path. Here are their numbers.

Norfolk Admirals AHL 75 7 18 25
Norfolk Admirals AHL 79 9 17 26

Oklahoma City Barons AHL 65 8 17 25
Bakersfield Condors* AHL 42 3 20 23

Keep in mind Oesterle has had a few call ups last year and this year, which would have had him playing very similar games played and probably putting up a few more points than Keith.

Now to the NHL. It wasn't until Keith's fourth NHL season that he started to really take off. He put up 21, 31, 32 points respectively in his first three NHL years playing all but one game.

Oesterle, if he played the full year, would be on pace for ~30 points.

Right now Oesterle plays like a very young Duncan Keith. Watching old Duncan Keith videos there is certainly a comparison to be made. If Oesterle puts on some weight and spends a couple years working on his skating while continuing to figure out the NHL game, we might have a player here.

Keith was 20 vs Oesterle is 22 ( start of their AHL careers)

5-10 games is being overly optimistic. We will need him for most of next season when all the D get injured.

Also, it's a small sample size but he's played better than Nurse, Reinhart, Clendening and Pardy.
