Jordan Greenway has had a decent rookie season, displaying a budding and strong physical game, while showing potential for more offensively.

As a leaf fan, Greenway seems like a great player to target. He has 1 year remaining on ELC, and can help bring a physical element, something lacking on the roster.

What type of return would Minnesota fans need to trade this young player?

What makes you think Minnesota would trade Greenway and not sign him long term?

There is really no reason for the Wild to trade him in the slightest.

He doesn't have the value to get anything "great", and what would be the point of trading him for a prospect of similar value. Especially when a prospect of similar value, probably doesn't have the thing that makes Greenway unique, his size/skill combo.

It's highly unlikely that Greenway is traded. He has an impact on the ice beyond his stats, for those who don't get to watch him and only look at the boxes. He is still a pup, and adding strength and coordination to his massive frame, yet is already doing some jaw dropping things defensively and puck protection wise due to his strength and reach.

In other words, trading him now would be unwise. While he might not end up being a first line player, odds are good that will be a difference making 2nd liner. Just hope the Wild don't screw up his development and try to make him a C, like they did with Coyle.

For those who haven't seen him, think of a LH Coyle, but add 3" in height, God knows how much in reach, and eventually, probably about 20-25 lbs.

I'm not aware of Minnesota's intentions. This is why I'm asking!
Their intentions are to build a new young forward core around the newly acquired and existing 20-23 year olds. Based on early performance Greenway is one of the biggest pieces of that core, no pun intended. He'd be available for a legit return only, something you aren't comfortable giving up, and no combination of picks as a major piece coming back as any pick would just be a hope of ending up with a player of his ability and potential.

if you want a slam-dunk yes - Marner
which Leafs obviously don't do

Greenaway wasn't a 1st round pick, but now that he has affirmed his value,
no real reason for Wild to move him, so you're leading to "an offer they can't refuse"

You could try with a package including either of the recent 1st round Swede D (Liljegren, Sandin) plus a young forward to fill the gap Greenaway would leave behind, plus a middling pick, and Wild still might feel that its not worth it.
While to Leafs and their fans, that would feel like a huge overpay.

Players with size, spunk and skill are darn hard to find.

Would I love to reunite coach Quinn w Greenaway? yes
Do it think NYR could do it by combing 2d round picks and B+ prospects - no
Any compelling price would begin with one of their ~7 1st rounders from '17, '18, '19

otherwise why should Wild do it?

I figured it would be closer to a player like Kapanen or Johnsson. Is there any interest in either?
Fair offer, but I hope the Wild say no, though their speed and scoring would be welcome! They need the size and strength of Greenway, however, especially in the Central playing Bang Bang Crash with WPG and STL. Fiala, Donato, and Zucker aren't going to make anyone back off in the corners.
Also don't want any part of the increased cap that will come with Kapanen, nor would the Wild want another LHS wing, which they are swimming in.

I would be upset if they traded him for anything less than a top 10 1st. He's just a unique player. Can easily see him ending up being like a slightly less offensive Tuch, but with far better defense and physicality. That's a pretty cool package. He's not an offensive game changer, but I think he will be in other ways.

Just don’t get angry
marner was really just a response to you and 2pair saying overpay which he clearly would be. as much as kapanen has more scoring touch right now than greenway does it really make sense to trade greenway for him? not really without more overpayment and in some leafs fans eyes kapenen might be overpayment based on stats alone.
