Heh.
I thought of that too :)
LOL.

I have another stat he didn't do so hot on.
"**** the Bed when you are needed" stat.
It's the number of Wins you give your team in the Playoff crunch (cuz the starter got hurt).

From a pure talent based ranking I think he's possibly a top 5. But the reality is he needs more time to prove himself over a number of seasons before he can actually be put into that category. Goaltending is such an incredibly difficult position you need to have a large sample size on a goalie to really see what he's made of. Right now I think 10 is a fair ranking. The difficulty of shots he faces on a consistent basis is extremely high and he makes game changing saves almost every night. It was predicted that he would regress from his outstanding performance last season but really after a bit of a slow start he has started right where he left off and the way he can make those massive grade A chance saves night in and night out is incredible.

I often think a lot about the elite goaltenders in the league who play for some really good defensive clubs and if they were to play on the Leafs and take on the workload and save difficulty of Bernier, I bet Bernier would be out performing many of them.

1.Lundqvist
2.Quick
3.Rask
4.Rinne
5.Schnieder
6.Bobrovski
7.Price

Those are the only 7 goalies that I can for sure say are better/more proven right now.

I would put Bernier somewhere between 8th and 11th best along with Anderson, Crawford and Bishop.

Schneider is not more proven or better than Bernier. My list would be:

1. Lundqvist
2. Quick
3. Rinne
4. Rask
5. Price
6. Luongo
7. Bobrovsky
8. Crawford
9-15. Any of Fleury, Halak, Bernier, Howard, Bishop, Varlamov, and Schneider.

Schneider regular season: 172 GP .924sv pct.
Schneider playoffs: 10 GP .922

Bernier regular season: 140 GP .919 sv pct.

Edit: just saw that. LOL, wtf.....

does it matter if people call him a top ten goalie or not, if he's performing like one anyways?

i think there is an obvious top 5 (not in any particular order)

lundqvist
rask
price
quick
rinne

i think the next 10 spots are debatable in terms of order. some goalies are young and havent established enough of a sample size (bishop) and others are on the down stroke of their careers. (miller/ luongo)

bobo
bishop
schnider
miller
fleury
crawford
halak
luongo
lehtonen
bernier
varlymov

Even strength save percentage is supposed to be the most accurate and sustainable measurement for goaltenders. Over the last few years, Bernier is 5th in the league in that category. As the sample size increases, it's looking more and more like he's a top goaltender.

@kevin_mcgran: Bernier 10th “@drosennhl: The top 14 goalies, as ranked by @cmasisak22, @BComptonNHL, @ArponBasu and yours truly. http://www.nhl.com/ice/m_news.htm?id=729530

Thoughts? Where would you rank him? Personally, last season, without him, we are drafting Reinhart/Ekblad. He carried his pretty much all season.

Hopefully we give him more support this season.

He didn't "carry the Leafs most of last season", until late Dec. the Leafs were using the 1A, 1B goalie system and Bernier got hurt in March so he carried the Leafs for Jan and Feb and a bit of March, I think it was a total of 55 games and Reimer played 25, that's not ALL, most but not All season. If he had played ALL season, the Leafs would likely have made the playoffs last year. I agree Bernier is one of the best goalies in the league and he does seem to get a lot of support here.

He looks really good -- especially when you consider the team in front of him doesn't have the puck that much and doesn't defend well.
