I don't get why Carlyle doesn't give JML a shot. He is with the Marlies now but they are paying his cap hit - 900 k so why not give him a shot. He is a veteran D that could come up settle things down.

Sure he is another offensive D but maybe its time to move Franson for a legit two way solid D to a team looking for a PP specialist/offensive D.

He's better than Ranger, Fraser, Franson and Gardiner right now. A vet d-man who can move the puck.
May as well try Brennan too

Liles was never that bad in the defensive zone, IMO.

With the way Fraser and Franson have been playing, I would slot him back in a heartbeat.

i dont see why nonis/carlyle wouldnt give the guy a shot. he was demoted because he wasnt carlyles guy. i dont think it was because he wasnt one of the best 7 defenseman at camp.

phaneuf-gunnarson
liles-gardiner
reilly-ranger

ive had enough of franson and fraser for a few games.

Liles is a perfectly fine D, I just lump him in with the RAndy don't play what Randy don't like bunch.

Because Carlyle is a ****ing stubborn old *****.

He'd rather have goons and/or plugs in the lineup who literally can't connect passes for zone exit, simply chipping it softly off the glass to be intercepted.

God forbid he sits Ranger and Fraser in lieu of Gardiner and Liles who actually can pass the god damn puck

He's been the right choice for a while now.

Are the same people that want to play Liles now the same ones that thought it was a GM mistake not to buy him out last summer?

It's definitely time to try out Liles.

Liles is far removed from his concussion and deserves a shot. I believe Randy didn't like him because he felt Liles played the game scared and tentatively upon coming back from his injury. But he deserves a chance to prove Randy wrong.

If Liles could get back to how he was when he first arrived in Toronto he'd be better than Gardiner or Franson.

I think it's too late for Liles to play, he'll get eaten alive having been out of the NHL so long now. Randy really ****ed him, what an a-hole.

We need more production from our back end. Our D can't move the puck out without icing it or put it against the boards.

It's really difficult for our forwards to play a transition game when no passes are coming their way.

We got rid of Grabo, Mac and Liles. That's a huge loss on production and now it's finally catching up to us.

More importantly they are three that can pass the puck, CMac just couldn't take a pass last year

He has been really good with the Marlies. I think he would have had a bounce-back year if he had played

Of course he has been good with the Marlies. He is an NHL caliber OFD who is way too good for the AHL but because RC plays favorites with goons like Fraser.

If they had no plans to give him a chance to redeem himself, even when the team is struggling defensively like they are now, it was a mistake.

There was an avenue available to remove him from the roster with no dead cap space that would have saved a small amount of cap space this year too. For whatever reason, Nonis chose not to use it and the result of that decision could be another 3 years of close to 3M in dead cap space.

If he is a bad fit and a bad contract then it was a mistake by the GM that didn't compliance buy him out or the GM that gave the player the contract in the first place?

Where does accountability lie with the GM that made the mistake or the GM that hasn't corrected it yet? What happens if Nonis deals him away in the future? There is a Liles for Gleason rumour floating around.

However now that he wasn't bought out, suddenly its a coaches mistake for not playing a player considered worthy of being gone via buyout, which would have made him unavailable as an option today. So is Liles now considered better than what Leafs currently have playing for them, and wouldn't that validate not buying him out for those that want him in the line-up?

Wanting him bought out and wanting him playing for the Leafs seems like a major contradiction in beliefs of player value to me.
