1857 Howitzer
******* Linesman
I was actually more concerned about him hurting the team. It's not as if he's coming off injury.
That's a concern too for sure.

yeah, lets throw him out there regardless of his game readiness and watch him pull a groin muscle or worse. What's one more on IR?
I guess you'd sit Phil Kessel too, ya?

Told #CBJ not pleased with Ryan Johansen's conditioning level. Asked GM Jarmo Kekalainen about it: "No comment."
Hope the dude doesnt injure himself, seems like hes being put in the lineup by default of not being injured.

That is VERY disappointing to learn. It's not like he had better things to do during his holdout than to stay in shape.
Ryan, you had one job and apparently couldn't even do that...

Actually, he didn't have a job. He'd been unemployed since June.
If he's ready by November, then he'll be ahead of the majority of the projected top 6 on this team.

He, like most players who missed an entire training camp, aren't going to be in the condition which they would have. It might take him a week or so to get there. So what.
Johansen missed all of camp and all eight exhibition games. The Blue Jackets, privately, are said to be not pleased with Johansen's conditioning level.
Asked that question pointedly this morning, GM Jarmo Kekalainen said: "No comment."

EXACTLY what I expected!!!!! Another Zherdev with blond hair. Are we sure Johansen isnt from Russia???
How is he supposed to be able to keep in shape with NHL players who were practicing and playing against NHL players when Johansen was skating with a bunch of juniors in Vancouver. Please be quiet.
A running track? Treadmill? They have skating rinks in Canada, no? Conditioning does not require games. It requires training. If he's out of shape, that's his fault.
Anyone who expected him to be in the equivalent shape of a player who had attended all of camp and played in multiple exhibitions is not being realistic.
He's in better shape than half of the projected top 6 no matter where he really stands in the conditioning department.
There's being in game shape, and there's being in good shape. I understand they are different things. Based on management's comments, perhaps the player doesn't.There's a big difference between off ice training and on ice conditioning which isn't in a structured environment.
They could, but it would be incredibly unhelpful for them to purposefully aid these sentiments to fester considering there's a three year contract in place. We'll see what type of shape he's in tonite based on TOI. The comments by management could be based on lingering bitterness from the holdout/negotiations.
Can I hold you to that?If Johansen isn't up to 16-18 minutes of TOI by game 4 or so, then one may have some cause to impugn his conditioning efforts.
Your first sentence here does not support the second. Kindof like you saying he didn't have a job since he didn't have a contract. It's impossible for anyone to take a less professional approach to one's career than to think, "Nobody's paying me, so I don't have to do ****."Anyone who expected him to be in the equivalent shape of a player who had attended all of camp and played in multiple exhibitions is not being realistic. Perhaps management should have kept this in mind when they were being recalcitrant in the negotiations.
This is at least the second time you've said this, and it doesn't make any more sense to me now than it did the first time. He's in better shape than half of the projected top 6 no matter where he really stands in the conditioning department.

Thats absurd honestly, he held out to get a average of 4.2 mill over next 4 years. The thread has been filled with comments of how the coaching staff/ fo had to put a foot on his butt for 2 years as he basically didnt meet there expectations with his effort and consistency, which came to a head with his benching in Springfield, and it turns out hes not in shape, and you go to this card. As Chris Carter would say, C'mon man.

What does trading Marian Gaborik away have to do with his credibility when it comes to making claims about Johansen's physical readiness? And Portzy is the one who "was told" that they weren't happy with Joey's conditioning, Jarmo never actually said anything about it publiclyYou are basing all this nonsense on a quote from Jarmo, the guy who traded Marian Gaborik for Matt Frattin. How about we see the kid play in a game and then judge what kind of shape he's in?
