The guy is like a fine wine - steadily improving. He started out as a goalscorer in Finland and was supposed to be the next big thing. He got hurt before his first NHL season and didnt pan out in Buffalo. In Winnipeg his role changed dramatically and he learned to play a shutdown 3-4th line role. Now suddenly he is getting his scoring touch back in Montreal, while playing a very sound defensive game and is a PK-specialist. He has quite an unique skillset and is on pace for his best season at 26yr old. What is he worth when hit the market summer 2021?

Would’ve been on pace for 50 points and close to 30 goals this year if he didn’t get injured. Outstanding defensively. If he can replicate that next year I don’t see why he couldn’t get the Charlie coyle contract at 5.25

The Coyle contract is an overpay in my opinion, Armia is rather a 40 point very good defensive 3rd liner with 25 goals potential, but if you give him 5m, what do you give Domi or Gallagher ?

Still about 18 months until we determine that unless Montreal wants to lock him up a year in advance. Personally 4.000x4 is the highest I would go. Love him as a player, however seems to miss tons of time due to injury.

I'm guessing 5 x 6-7 million now, but if he steadily improves from this season -> full season and with 30 goals 65-70 points, then
6 x 8 million after the 20-21 season is my guess.

Joel Armia has been one of the best Habs players this season and one of the most important ones as well,
because all of the goals and points he scores (will score) are just a nice bonus.

WTF no. I mean the guy is a keeper, a unique talent especially on a small Habs team but that's top line money for a player who despite his tools is not and never has been close to a top line player.

I agree Coyle is overpaid to. I think Gallagher will get around 7m aav and Domi I could see him getting a 1 year show me contract worth maybe 5-6m to see if he can repeat his 72 point season because he is on pace for 54 points this year. If it were long term its tough to say because he has not been consistent. I’ll throw out 7m as well since he’s center

I believe he (Domi) won't get a 1 year prove it because that would lead him into UFA status (7 years playing in NHL), IMO either he signs long term or he gets traded this summer.

Agreed, in my opinion with Lekhonen, Danault Armia, you have a killer shutdown line but none of them should be paid over 5m AAV (maybe Danault a bit more but that's it)

If he scores 20+ goals 40-50 points this season and next then you're probably looking at around $5 million for 5/6 years. He'll be 28 when his current contract expires so I think he's looking for 5 years, probably 6.

The Habs would be smart to sign that guy longterm. Injuries aside, he brings something to that top 9 no other player/prospect they have can.

I'd give him a 4,5-5 M/per long term prolongation (6-7 years) in July.

If he continues to improve his point totals next season i wouldnt be shocked to see something like 5yrs 6m per on the free market. But i would assume it will be somewhere in 4-5m per range for around 4-6 yrs

Anything above 5M with term would be a mistake imo.
He's a good player. Great possession, heavy shot (not very precise tho). Big. Not very fast, but not slow either. Often injured.

4m+ if they want to take up more than 1 year of free agency. Saying 5m is a big stretch for a guy that's never hit 15 goals or 30 points, even if he's on pace for a good year (and even if he actually hits the 20 goal mark).

1 year 3.5m 2 years 3.75m would be fair and a bit of a discount IMO.

He's UFA after his deal, not RFA.

He'll probably end up with something a little more than Byron (3.4mX4). Byron was coming off back to back 20 goal years, is a top penalty killer, and has elite speed. Armia has never scored 20 (though he might this year), but he is younger, bigger, and also a great defensive/position player. GMs will probably be more willing to overpay for someone who is 6'4 rather than 5'8 and the cap is moving up, so chances are Armia will come out over what Byron makes, but people thinking 6-8 (?!?!?) have no clue what they are talking about.
