With his goal against the Kraken last night Pavs has passed Eric Staal and is now by himself the scoring leader of his draft class . He also leads the 2003 draft in goals . Not bad for a 7th round pick

Anaheim really knew how to use their late 1st rounders. Not a bad draft for Nashville either.

And Boston of course got Bergeron.

Still don't think he would even go first in the draft either in a redo but considering he went 205 over all is mind boggling.

All I can think about now after seeing that list is thevteam canada sent to the world juniors because of the lock-out 🤣🤣

Of course the real high pick flop in that draft was, who else, the New York Rangers drafting Hugh Jessiman 12th who had 2 games and 5 penalty minutes with Florida in 2011. Rangers got some unknown consideration from Nashville for him…maybe a George Jones album?

Well Penguins had 1st overall pick, and he has zero goals in over 1000 games.

Can’t give the Bruins management too much credit for that, since they actually took Mark Stuart ahead of Bergeron.

Drafting inherently has an element of luck involved, so just take the wins as they come.

Perhaps the bruins go a different route if they REALLY liked Bergeron and had intel that he won't be available for their next selection. There's alot of moving parts on draft day.

Get a load of that Burns guy as well.

What a class that was, and remarkable to now see Pavelski sitting atop it.

Montreal didn't fare all that well with Andrei Kostitsyn either.

But with him, you could at least see why he was highly touted. He was built like a tank, and he had dynamic elements to his game.

He did appear to have a breakout year in 07-08, but that turned out to be his peak. He suffered a concussion the following season off a pretty scary looking headshot, and I wonder if that may have played a part in his shortened nhl career (along with whatever reputation he got in that radulov nightlife incident).

If I’m counting correctly, Parise, Suter, Carter, Burns and Pavelski, there are still five actives from a 21 year old draft.

edit-lol this Pens fan missed MAF, so at least six active players.

edit, make it seven because Corey Perry is active with the Oilers.

Crazy that as great as that draft was, there are currently no 500 goal scorers in that class.

Goes to show you how awful hockey was for most of their careers.

If they were drafted 15 years earlier, we’re probably talking about at least four or five 500 goal scorers in that group.
None of the players are a ppg player, either.

Hopefully Pavelski comes back for 1 more year and gets to 500 goals..

Yup.......IIRC, they traded up into the first round and snagged Perry with Dallas's first round pick.

Dallas settled for Loui Eriksson in the 2nd.

He was a big favourite of mine when he broke into the league in the bottom 6 as something of an energy player. What a damn career he's had.

Commented this elsewhere, but surprises me how few slam dunk HHOFers there are in this GOAT draft. Only Bergeron is 100% in first ballot, no questions asked. Players like Getzlaf, Perry, Weber, Pavelski, Burns etc. have arguments for and against them getting in. They (or at least some of them) will probably get in at some point, but I don't get a "should easily get in first ballot" kind of vibe from them.
