It's time.

He's had 5 years to turn this team around but all I see is a couple of young players who could take over this league.

We're caped out moving forward so what do you say......

If the bolded is true then that's pretty promising.

The cap management has been god awful, and anyone trying to say otherwise or change the topic is obviously not a poster worth talking to.

Ironically none of the promising young players are actually signed to a non-ELC and we’re still capped out.

Imagine when they actually get paid, our roster will look even worse than it does currently.

Canucks cap management is fine.

Right now, they are roughly 2 million over the cap with 26 roster players. Demoting 2 fringe players gets them under the cap. Plus they can move Roussel to LTIR if they need cap relief

For next season, they currently have $17M in cap with 16 players signed. Notable free agents are Tanev, Stecher, Markstrom and Virtanen. It's a bit tight, but manageable

Pettersson and Hughes have 2 more years left until RFA. At that time, Edler, Sutter, Pearson & Baertchi come off the books, freeing up $17M in cap space.

When Boeser's contract is up, Luongo's $3M cap recapture penalty and Eriksson $6M hit come off the books.

Based on those numbers, there's enough room to pay the top players and should leave enough to fill the roster with players on ELC's or depth players making < $2M.

1.Nothing I hate more than declaring something as "fine". What do you even mean? Like yeah, no one is going to die over it, so it's fine, but it's certainly not ideal and has given a major lack of flexibility.

2. People who say everythings "fine" don't ever seem to give any credence to the nuance involved in finagling the salary cap and maximizing LTIR space. It's not easy to do. It'll be tough.

3. The whole point at some stage soon is that we want this team to be a capable cup contender....this 3rd point you've made shows just how little flexibility they have. They'll barely be able to afford the status quo. No improvements, not adding a Marian Hossa to your elite talents....they've got no space.

4. Again the goal isn't to be able to afford Pettersson and Hughes, it's about having a cup contending team capable of winning it all.

5. Yes, contracts expire, but the situation is still not "fine" or anywhere close to ideal. Contracts expire, and just looking at capfriendly in 3 years to and the space just causes mistakes, because most of the times people are just looking at the total available that season, which often neglects any extensions between them, not to mention the Canucks are probably going to have to eat some salary on trades/buyouts very soon.

The situation is not fine. It's manageable and will take a serious amount of expertise (I don't count on it from these guys) but they have a serious lack of flexibility moving forward and that Boeser extension in 3 years the summer after Petey and Hughes' new deals are going to be massive contracts and hopefully the team is a serious contender at that point.

Cap is going to really tight in 2 yrs.
This yr is done.
Next year is pretty much set - so you better hope this yr is a good one, cuz next yr is virtually the same team - minus Schaller, add Tryamkin...
..But two yrs from now will be interesting.

This.

I'm sure we'll 'manage' in some fashion but our ability to make an impact acquisition at any point over the next couple years has basically been pissed out the window.

That's not fine. That's fine if you're a high end team that has done a bunch of juggling to make your stacked contender work.

We're managing for now, but I wouldn't say we're "fine", though I also know that "fine" is a fairly loose term.

Having Brandon "Balls of Steel" Sutter and Loui "Coach f***ed me" Eriksson collecting 10mil pension checks is not really "fine", imo.
