I'm torn. It probably should be Appleton, but I voted Samberg based on perceived upside. Appleton is clearly further along, but Samberg has the chops to be reallllllly good.

Too much of a newbie to vote yet but I would pick Appleton. More personal preference than anything.

I think there are 3 guys that could be here but they also all have question marks

Samberg - Has top 4 potential. Real good World juniors last year. Was a defensive stalwart at college. Offense at college wasn't good. Needs to produce this year
Appleton - Maybe 2nd line potential. Great year in the AHL. Doesn't wow you when you see him but he comes away with points. Works hard and has a decent toolkit but maybe not elite level.
Lemieux - Very good 2nd year as a pro with his production. Probably more of a bottom 6 guy in the future. Adds grit. Got to control his temper.

I went with Lemieux because I think he could have an earlier impact then the other 2 but you can't go wrong with any of them IMO
Good analysis. I think Samberg has the tools to add offensive production. He sees the ice well, skates well and has a plus shot. I think he was likely tentative in the NCAA as a freshman trying not to take risks on a top team. You could see his tools in the WJC, and I hope that translates to better prepare production.

So many are still sleeping on Lemieux, of course some think he is a RW so not overly surprising on evaluations.

Lemieux will play as a regular in the NHL, that may be this season with the Jets. If Perreault and or Perreault aren't moved he may spend a large part of the year with the Moose though. The quickness and speed he showed last year was a real positive, I expect he's working really really hard again this off season.

I see Samberg as more likely to be a 2nd pair defender than Appleton a 3rd line forward, and a good 3rd pairing D is already about similar impact to a 3rd line forward.
I didn’t really like Appleton’s play or production away from Petan and Roslovic.

Some people think Perreault and or Perreault are two different players.

Lemieux's temper - and I'm going to use this word quite loosely here - issues scare me. It's one thing to be an agitator, but when you're messing with the officials and taking unsportsmanlike penalties way too often, you're likely to become a problem at some point.

The skill and ability is undeniable at the AHL level, but the inability to control a temper could be a fatal flaw.

I like Berdin. I feel he is a wild card and this year in the AHL will let us know what is about. I like Samberg and a couple others, but gut tells me Berdin has the potential to be very good.

I like Appleton, but Samberg is a year out of high school and looked pretty damn good at UMD and great at the Worlds. He's a diamond in the rough with a ton of talent.

Lot of potential there. He may even be #1 or 2 on this list - next year. Right now he also still has a lot to prove.

It isn't just who is closer to the NHL, or farther away. It is also the level of uncertainty.

I doubt Berdin is in the AHL this year. I think he would have to beat out Comrie for that and I doubt he is ready for that step.

I would rather he start in the ECHL than ride the pine in the AHL.

Hmmm. Seems a bit low on Kraskovsky. I have him in my top 8000 easy.

Chevy already said it was the plan. We will see him there, he is playing above the ECHL and basically carried his team.

I am not sleeping on Lemieux, I just don't think he belongs in the NHL at this point. His shot is nice and all, but his penchant for being ridiculous undoes any good. I also think his upside is limited.

Personally, I'm more intrigued by the ceiling of players like Samberg, Appleton, Gustafsson and Spacek.

I would agree Comrie is dogmeat ;) but I would expect them to be pretty close in number of games. The Moose play a lot of B2B and it just makes sense to alternate the goalies for those.

I don't really think Comrie is dogmeat. That was a rhetorical question. It is at least a year too soon to give up on Comrie. I have long thought he was overrated here, until suddenly he was underrated here.

In his last chance year, Comrie needs to play - a lot. In his first pro year, Berdin needs to play a lot. Berdin is still a fair length of time away from the NHL. The ECHL is a good place for him to start becoming a pro and get lots of games. No need to rush him. He can take over the starter's job with the Moose next year.

Nope. Forget the echl, give them 38 games each, one may play more give or take, but let Berdin take his next step in AHL and get used to our staff and get to access our top end facilities which echl can't touch. If he's good enough AHL it is for him.
You're also making a big assumption he would get all the starts in the echl, that's not how all those teams work. I would argue he'd get similar amount of games there.

Any player we have sent to our ECHL affiliate recently has gotten lots of TOI. I would be surprised if our agreement with them doesn't specify that we can supply the starting goalie. If that is not specified and he can't win the job on his merits then it is moot anyway. If he can't make the ECHL as a starter there is no NHL in his future. Plenty of good goalies have come up through the ECHL. It isn't even unusual.
