I feel like upgrading from bottom pair Pysyk to top pair RFA Trouba should cost more than a high end C prospect, 1st, and cap dump, but if that is the price then you absolutely have Florida's ear.

I wouldn't be all in though. Depends on Trouba's price tag and how willing he is to play a depth role. He isn't worth the 8m he was reportedly asking for, and with our roster of

Yandle (low end 1D) at 6.4m
Ekblad (top pair D) at 7.5m
Matheson (middle pair D with 2D upside) at 4.9m

Trouba would have to be willing to sign at like 6.5m and understand that he's not going to be a marquee guy on the blueline. I don't know if that's something he'd be down for.

A pack of crackers, belly button lint, sat on melted chocolate and half a banana peel for Trouba...

How about we reverse it with Roslovic, Kulikov, 1st Round pick and Copp for Ekblad and who ever your first or second best goalie prospect is for Florida.

Love when people comment on players that they have so much knowledge about :sarcasm:

That package gets the Panthers Panarin, but not the generational Jet Trouba I guess.

Throwing a couple packs of peanuts at a waitress for a gourmet meal doesn’t work, qaulity is always more necessary than quantity. The best part of that deal( is a heavy risk(pitting Borgstrom a rookie in the Top 9 at Center) that Jets fans already have the luxury to take with Roslovic while Little is not moving past Top 9 either(even if he where the Jet just signed Lowry as well).

If you are hungry, go make yourself a sandwich, because your analogies have nothing to do with the Panthers offer. Borgstrom and a 1st is hardly "quantity over quality," regardless who the Jets have. Typical HF response, I dont know about the other teams player, but Im going to assume he isnt worth my teams player.

If Trouba does not sign long term in the next 30 hours or so this is not a bad deal for the Jets. Trouba value to the Jets drop big time if he sign the Arb deal no matter what is it's AAV. If Trouba signs a 1 year Arb deal with a team that is contending for the cup like the Jets are this is a major signal to the rest of the league that he wants out of the Peg. His trade value for the Jets goes down no matter how good he is. Chevy may find himself in a situation where any decent trade is better then letting Trouba walk in 2 years time.

The days of getting a good young D to replace Trouba has pass. Getting anything close to Trouba's value has to be considered going forward. Be it prospects, picks or NHL D that are not as good as Trouba.

The point is unless Chevy can pull a rabbit out of his hat any trade involving Trouba going forward is a deal where the best player in the trade (Trouba) is going the other way.

Trouba has a history of playing hardball over money. Reportedly he recently demanded $8 million per season to sign long term. After that demand was rejected, he went to arbitration, where he is currently demanding $7 million vs. the Jets' offer of $4 million. After this season, he is arbitration eligible again for one more season before becoming a UFA. In other words, Trouba appears to be a 2 year rental, who is only cost-controlled for one season. Given these circumstances, this proposal is an easy "no" from the Panthers perspective.

If the Jets really did go in with a $4m offer, (McKenzie said he heard those numbers, I dunno if there's more concrete info available) they're playing hardball, too. No way was he ever going to sign anywhere near that number.

If it makes you feel any better, apparently his Australian gf who studies in Florida has had trouble with getting a visa to come to Canada, and apparently that's been part of his preference to move to an American team. Sounds like Florida would be a perfect fit for him to sign a new deal. Although your gm would already have an agreement in place on a long-term deal before he decided to beat the other offers out there.

Heilongjetsfan:

Thanks for the information. Also add the fact that Florida has zero state income tax, which effectively means that a player can sign for 10% less and make the same or more money. Assuming that, due to the unique combination of the girl friend in Florida circumstance, the large Russian community and the favorable tax situation, Trouba is willing, if traded, to sign long term with Florida for $6.75 million, then Florida would start by offering Bjugstad, your choice of Pysyk or Petrovic, and a 1st in 2019 and then see where the negotiations go.
