This does give the Jets the opportunity to go big on Laine and Connor. Even if Buff comes back at midseason it would probably create enough cap space to sign both RFAs to big, long-term deals.

So if he doesn't show up before the season and they suspend him and take it from the cap, is it still possible he joins later in the season with a lower cap hit?

His cap hit will be proportional to how many games he plays. If he misses half the season, he only accumulates half his cap hit.

Maybe the jets like the look of the youth in preseason? Just go big with our two unsigned guys and muddle through with the young d.

Hopefully it doesn't provide too big an opportunity - Chevy still needs to negotiate and just because the cap space is now there, I don't want him over paying either of these guys
