It is with a great deal of sadness that the Canadiens organization learned tonight the passing of Jean Béliveau. He was 83 years old.

RIP to a legend. My French Canadian grandfather worshipped him like a legend, as I'm sure many do.

Few sporting figures I have met carried themselves with the presence, grace and elegance of Mr. Beliveau. I could never call him "Jean". RIP

The player who made me a Habs fan. I remember when I was a kid my dad woke me up to tell me Mr. Beliveau had scored his 500th goal. The memory of him skating the cup around the Chicago stadium ice in 1971 is something I will always remember! RIP Gros Bil! Thank you for having a profound impact on me during my youth! You were the best role model!

It's very sad news. I met Johnny Bower earlier this year, and he told me Jean was very sick. It is still a shock to read he died though. He is definately the greatest Captain in Canadiens history.
