Jared Coreau has been waived by Detroit.

He has a $612,500.00 cap hit.

McBackup has a cap hit of $850,000.00.

Both contracts can be buried. Claim Coreau and tell McDust to kick rocks.

Profit.

McElhinney looks pretty great these past couple of games. Like he did last season. I'm good.

Never understood why Coreau made waves last year. Saw a bunch of the games, thought he was pretty meh. All stats seem to back that up as well.

I'd rather have McElhinney. From a statistical viewpoint, the basic ones put him as better. The more in-depth ones put him as much better (they tend to actually like McElhinney)

If they don't trust McBackup, Sparks looks like the better option to me than Coreau. And McBackup has looked good so far so I don't see the point of this.

claim him, keep both run 3 goalies until someone wants to give you a 5th for Coreau like Condon last year, we only really have Leivo, and Marincin as extras right now (sarcasm, where did that smilie go? :()

Someone might claim him. Not sure it'll be us.

He's looked McGood this preseason and he was McFine last year, so...Unless we can get a serious upgrade, why bother.

Jared Coreau would be a great pick up but we have two solid Goal Tenders in Andersen and McElhinney however McElhinney is on a 1 year deal and next year we may need Coreau, there are only 2 ways to do it, carry 3 goal tenders, or waive McElhinney.

If we carry 3 Goal Tenders, we have to dump either 1 Forward or 1 Defenseman, defense might be the easiest way to solve the conundrum either waive or assign to the Marlies, 1 of the 4th pairing Marincin/Borgman/Rosen.

Isn't McElhinney on a 2 year deal? :(

Your right they signed McElhinney for 2 years but getting a great Goal Tender like Coreau would still be a good move but I think the reality is someone else will claim him before we get a chance anyway.

If only we had a goalie like Coreau who put up sv% of .927, .922, .917 over 3 AHL seasons and a .887 NHL sv% over 14 games. Oh wait we have 1 a year younger who we're about to put on waivers ourselves who put up 3 AHL years of .915, .928, and .922, and a similar sized NHL sample of .893.

Our commentators love to gush over random players on other teams. Don't let them fool you, statistically Garrett Sparks is just as good as Jared Coreau.

nah, McE has been overall solid for the last 5yrs or so (NHL: 101gms, .910sv%, AHL: 74gms, .917), with only one bad year squeezed in there (15-16: 18gms, .890s%).

Yes he was but that was his only good season he's been garage by NHL standards the rest of his career he has to do it again

Sure but the guy just had a solid NHL season followed by a solid pre-season

He's the best were going to get at this stage, if we wanted another backup we needed to upgrade in the offseason, not go dumpster diving now off the waiver wire

You want to get rid of McElhinney for a guy whose only stint in the NHL resulted in an .887 SV% and 3.46 GAA? Very impressive, I'm definitely sure he would be a more capable backup.

Turn you brain on.

We tried it's known they went after Condon but Ottawa gave him a 3rd year otherwise he'd be in Toronto and that came from Elliott Freidman

I'm fine with McBackup unless we are replacing him with a future number #1. I think it is a tribute to what great shape we are in when all we have to fret about is our backup and our bottom pairing D. Good times.
