Need a source for that.
Le Canadien aurait contacté les Stars pour Jamie Benn
"the montreal canadien have contacted the Stars for Jamie Benn"

here you go, it's in french though, I can translate if you want

I'm interested in his physicality and what he could bring, he is what MTL will miss during the playoff.
I would never take his 9.5M though, it needs to have retention or an exchange of bad contracts.

I can still see Benn producing 50-60p this year but falling to 40-50 after.

( if Lindell or Kling would be available, a package of Lindell/kling + Benn would fill a need.

This isn't a verified/valid source.

I guess this guy Roope Hintz is some scrub to go along with Lindell and Klingberg. The Central division has the Blues, you know the defending Stanley Cup champs and Colorado, Jets, and Preds. How someoe calls that division weak is utterly beyond me.

never said he was a scrub. He still was their 4th highest point producer forward with 30 points. Hell, even an 18 years old Kotkaniemi outproduced him.

The fact the Blues won the cup doesn’t meant anything. Colorado barely made it into the playoff with 90 points (lol) and both Jets and Nashville aren’t/weren’t the power house they were a couple years ago and it surely isn’t getting better anytime soon. It’s like saying Chicago is still a power house.

The only team on the rise is (rightfully) Colorado. Blues and Preds will be able to get in the playoff fairly easily as well too.

very weak division? If only the Central had teams like buffalo, Ottawa and Detroit last year to play. Central has been one of the toughest divisions for years

Maybe your thinking of the Pacific, but Dallas hasn’t played there for awhile now

Last year they had Minny, Chicago and Colorado with 90 points or less with Dallas not quite far at 93 points.

Only Nashville managed (100) points. Everyone else was under 100, so yeah, weak division + weak conference since 2018-2019 season.

Ah, so the source is the least reliable source out there (nhltraderumours).

So then what was Atlantic Div? Super weak? 3 teams below 80 with one of those below 70

Didn’t the Central have the best record vs out of division last year anyways? Maybe it was vs the East, I can’t remember lol

I tried to do a quick search but didn’t see anything with those stats

regardless Dallas won’t be trading Benn now, maybe during the off-season. Yeah he’s going to be overpaid but he’s still useful and if he didn’t play in Montys defensive system he’d still be good for 60+ points imo

I know you didn’t start the thread, just getting back on topic

Benn has NMC....so maybe the Habs wouldn't be that enticing to him. Montreal seems to be fine at LW, no real reason to trade for another . But six years of 9.5m...he's 30 years old. Better ways of Montreal to spend their cap and not giving assets too.

and that’s totally fine. At first, I was just stating what I think would need to go the other way to make it work cap wise for Montreal and some possible reasons that might* help Benn waive his NMC if a trade is in fact made between both teams.

Our biggest need is a LD but our 2nd biggest need is a top 6 powerforward. Not too many of those around anymore. He'd look good w/ Domi most likely.

Your division is top heavy. No doubt about that. The central is the hardest division and most analysts will say the same. Also 100 cut off is dumb when the central had 2 teams at 99. It’s not like your division with a 76, 74, and 64. Worst team was 83 in Minnesota. Only division with no team in the 70 point range or less.

Montreal can't afford his contract.
Dallas isn't retaining 50% to make this work.
Dallas isn't taking on Alzner to make this work.
Montreal isn't about to cripple itself by taking on another huge long term contract that could potentially become a massively overpaid 3rd liner.
Montreal isn't about to cripple itself with 9.5mil with a bunch of young players due for new contracts before that 9.5 expires, especially not with Price, Weber and Alzner still on the books.
Nothing about this rumor makes sense.

No. First and foremost Alzner need to go for cap purpose. We don’t have 9.5M available. Second, a LW (Lehkonen, Byron?) needs to go as well. Futures too I guess to make the deal work
Alzner is with Laval. Clearing his salary would have no impact on our salary cap.

Actually, it would, I do not remember the exact number, but it,s something like, you save max. 925k from the cap hit of a contract when sending a player to the AHL.
