Not playing well, a monster cap hit, and 2/3rds of the teams having 5 mil or under in room is going to mean he’s extremely difficult to move.

Really, it could only be for a larger salaried player coming back IMHO.

I could see something like Benn for Voracek or maybe Benn for Parise, Fiala, and some pick swapping. You may be able to pull of a Benn and Kovalchuk swap if perhaps the goal is for Dallas to get some cap space relief if they want to pursue any UFAs.

Could also see Montreal being interested...Benn+Honka for Drouin+Lehkonen+Alzner.

I think Dallas would be thrilled to get a player like Drouin in return for Benn

Benn has just 59 points in his last 92 games. He's nearing cap dump status, if he isn't already there

Drouin has been arguably the Habs best player this season so doubt he is moved.

Why sell low ?? Do they believe he’s done and can’t rebound?
If so I doubt any team would pick him up now especially with that cap

Cap hits have to be going the other way. No team is absorbing $9.5 million.

This was a big year for Benn. Down year last season and he needed to rebound. Year 3/8 of his big extension. 30 years old, not old, but you can't be expecting a 31 year old next year to bounce back to 70 points if he gives you 2 straight seasons of 50 points. At least, you can't be banking on that because it's more likely you will be disappointed than redeemed for your belief in him.

Good luck with moving him at that salary with his declining production.

As mentioned above, for every Neal who bounces back (at this point) there is a Lucic, an Eriksson, or a Seabrooke who look pretty much shot.

(At least shot as their play relates to making big money...)

Benn to Vancouver for Eriksson, Sutter, and Juolevi

not even for just one of them. 5 years after this one at $9.5m aav means he is not tradeable without a very large add until he goes on a career ending ltir and the leafs grab him.

Replace all those Hab players with Weber and we got a deal.

Difference is Benn is still physically capable of being the player he was it appears. Problem is mentally he just checks out in games and makes lazy plays. Last couple of weeks have been really solid for him though. Been better than our other top guys

Not Art Ross level Benn of course and probably not worth his salary really ever again but still

Watch him follow the Jordie path..

He goes to Montreal with some salary retained. Then gets moved to Vancouver eventually.

Even if you manage to get some value back in a trade for Benn you’d definitely be eating at least 1 big cap dump in return. 5 x 9.5 remaining. Teams just can’t absorb that cap hit even if they think he bounces back in a change of scenery.

Could teams with a bad cap dump like Vancouver with Eriksson even afford the contract for the next 5 years? They have a lot of young talent that will be due for raises and Eriksson gone in 3 not 5. On top of that they have to add positive value for even taking Eriksson back, just don’t see it and this is one of the few teams many will mention.
