Figured this would be considered clutter in the prospect forum

Jack Hughes, the likely 1st overall pick to New Jersey. What do you think his peak point potential is?

I personally voted 100+. The reasoning being I think his skating, hands, and IQ are what are beginning to thrive in the NHL. With scoring rising and the game becoming faster, it seems like Jack is tailor-made for today's game

I dont see many NHLers who I think will be clearly better skaters than Jack minus McDavid

I say around 90. I am just not sure how good his goalscoring will be against NHL keepers/dmen. A lot of stuff that works in Juniors wont against NHL competition. He doesn't have an elite shot so he will need to rely on his IQ to get open in closer proximity to the net for tap ins and deflections or on his speed for breakaways. His assist totals will also depend on the quiality of his wingers and the overall line chemistry. So overall I see him as a PPG player topping 90 points during his better years, if the Devils are able to supply him with good goalscoring wingers. If he plays with Hall fulltime and Taylor is still in his prime, I could even see him aproaching 100 points.

Kane has eclipsed 100 points twice (in his 9th & 12th seasons) - I think Hughes has the potential to be around his level and with the right teammates and some luck could hit 100 points in a season.

Depends what happens with rules in the league in general. Goals might be bigger in size, goalie equipment smaller etc. If games tend to end with 10 goals a game 15 years from now, its very likely that he can eclipse 100 points at a point or another. I went with 80 to 90 points though as a potential peak with current rules. I think he will be only the 3rd best player from this years draft.

Very few players reach 100 points, and while I think he will be very very good, he doesn't really have the craziest shot in the world and IF Hall leaves he wont be surrounded by a ton of talent. The kid is high end but he isn't generational like those before him.

Might depend more on the direction the league goes as well in terms of playstyle.

Which two players do you think will be better?

I think Barzal's production in his rookie year is where Hughes will be consistently throughout his career, with some peaks and valley's mixed in there as well.

I only have Kakko ahead of him currently, but I play the odds expecting another one from the field to be more effective NHLer simply cause of his size (I know it's old fashioned). There are quite a few players that have super high upside. First that comes to mind is Podkolzin who has a chance surpassing him.

Attention and Seeker.

Hughes has potential to hit 100, more so than any other player in the draft. It will take a few seasons for his game to adjust to the next level, though.

Don't see how anyone could think his potential is less than 100pts. If or if not he lives up to the top end of his potential is another story but there's only one correct answer to this question right now. Considering his skill set and pedigree its >100

Any top-3 overall drafted forward has a 100+ point peak potential, especially if the point rates continue on as this season's increased rate was. If he didn't have a shot at one day hitting 100 points, he wouldn't be drafted first overall.

Being drafted 1st overall only means that he was considered the best of his draft class, it has absolutely nothing to do with 100 point potential. There aren't such players nearly every year.

Do you think any forward, would EVER, be drafted first overall if the GM drafting them didn't think, "you know, this guy could POTENTIALLY score 100 points one year" ?

Peak/potential means, what could his best ever season be, in any realm of possibility? If you don't think a forward drafted 1st overall in this day and age could "possibly, feasibly, even maybe" score 100 points in his best ever season, then why would he be considered the 1st overall pick?

Scoring is going up, Hughes best ability on the ice is putting up points. I don't see why his best season couldn't be 100+ points. It doesn't mean it will be, but it could.

because he’s the best player in the draft.. do you think the teams say “f*** it he isnt hitting 100 points therefore I forfeit my draft pick”

Lol, man thank GOD Ottawa (Colorado) lost the draft lottery.

As a Sens fan I wish they had won. The ineptitude by ownership and management shouldnt be rewarded, they should be exposed it could have actually spurned change. Which we dont have, we have a bunch of idiots running an NHL organization with a shoe string budget. After finishing dead last in the NHL while having Stone and Duchene for most of the season they now think they can compete for a playoff spot. Oh yeah with no President or Coach yet.
