I really with the Organization would take the temperature of it's fans. Let them be angry tomorrow and skip the tribute. PJ boy will come back later in the year, honor him then.

my rule of thumb...be loud, and say what's on your mind without embarrassing the fan base. Make sure pajama boy knows he made a mistake for leaving. No throwing stuff on the ice, no burning jerseys, kill him with boos and chants.

Respect the Canadian national anthem, Leaf fans that are minding their own business and do not get physical.

All else is fair game. He made his bed, now let him sleep in it! :naughty:

What are we allowed to feel for this game? Did everyone ask permission from Toronto to cheer or boo?
Actually, I think the TO consensus is that we are permitted the following chant during the game:

"We are sorry we didn't surround you with better players and understand you choosing your home (the mecca of hockey) and childhood dream and tire endorsements and guaranteed multiple Cups with actual parade routes over us knuckle-dragging losers, but darn it, we're still kinda frustrated, you know?"

Agree with all that. I have no problems with leaf fans going to the game, cheering for their team and exchanging light hearted banter with me or other Islander fans. I DO have a problem with leaf fans sporting their Tavares jersey and taking it upon themselves to respond to every indignity thrown at Tavares. That's like an Islander fan taking it upon himself to go to the Garden and shout down every Potvin Sucks! chant and passionately argue that a) Nilsson's skate simply hit a rut in the ice, b) the hit was perfectly clean and c) Potvin doesn't suck - he's actually one of the best defenseman to ever play the game. News flash - no one cares!

leaf fans are entitled to pay the money, make the time and effort to show up and cheer. But don't be shocked and outraged that there is animosity thrown at your new favorite player. You want to defend his honor? Don't be surprised if things get ugly.

D'ya think Art Modell ever went back to Cleveland? Any of the Irsay's back to Baltimore? That's the analogy - not Mat Sundin. Or perhaps Lebron's first return to Cleveland. That's really the closest thing on point here. Here we go:

The unforgettable night Cavs fans chanted 'Akron hates you' at LeBron James (definitely worth the read).

No booing the anthem. No getting physical with Toronto fans, unless provoked of course. No throwing items on the ice. Yes booing each time he touches the puck. Yes cheering if someone can lay a nice hit on him.

Just win the game. 5 points clear of a playoff spot is tenuous, especially the way they have been playing for 2-3 weeks now.

This. I'll be there Thursday night. I hope this fanbase doesn't embarrass themselves anymore than they have in the last couple days, including some of the dopes around here. I'm sure there are going to be fights. There are too many morons in both fanbases that are going to drink and be idiots.

I'm gonna go with the under here. There will be tension, there will be harsh words, but people don't fight much at hockey games anymore....except maybe in Philly. I remember the last Isles/Rags game at the Coliseum and was ready for the yellow jackets to be ushering ppl out left and right, and I didn't see one punch thrown. Honestly, when was the last time we've seen a fight at a game? I've seen one at Barclays but that wasn't really hockey related.

(but I'm not really all that confident in that prediction....things could go south very quickly, of course)

It is certainly not like it used to be. The Islanders/Rangers rivalry has mellowed considerably with the fans since both teams haven't really done much. The 90s and early 00s used to be fight nights every game between them. The only reason I'm thinking it isn't going to be all that mellow tomorrow, is that too many dopes are still really pissed off at this guy. Many will be looking to take it out on anything Toronto.

And the continued promotion of how grand and long the tailgates are going to be. The YesMen Outfitter guys are calling it the "TailHate at the Barn."

You very well may be right. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow night on many levels. My anger at Tavares is only slightly higher than my curiosity as to how the game goes, both on and off the ice. Oh yeah, I'd like to see an Islanders win. There's that too!

Very few Canadians are likely to be rude. Let's not embarass ourselves.

Remember, our best player is from Toronto!

I am interested to see if people throw stuff on the ice in between whistles. Honestly? I was in elementary school during the Buffalo-Isles Sabres playoff series when people started throwing things on the ice and it was hilarious. If nobody gets hurt I don't have an issue with anything the fans do.

I'm not sure if its unique to Islander fans, but the throwing of beer towards the ice (not always making it) is something of a strange phenomenon/practice. When I was at the first opener at Barclays, I felt a strange sense of comfort and familiarity when my wife was doused with beer from the upper deck. My brief moment of bliss and serenity was rudely punctured by her scream and displeasure at being wet and sticky of smelling like beer but I thought - at least for a moment - that perhaps Barclays wouldn't be that big a change.

I was wrong on many levels.

I fully expect this to be reminiscent of John Rocker at Shea Stadium, and that's sad. Unfortunately, I think the drunk, emotional idiots will outnumber the sensible fans.

Were there fights at those games? There was a lot of talk about "John Rocker Battery Night" but I don't think anyone threw anything at him - not even a AAA.

One time, he did come out though, from the bullpen, with a shit eating grin on his face, to warm up the left fielder (and to rile up the fans) and then tossed the ball into the stands while laughing heading back to the pen. The dude who caught the ball threw it back on the field in his vicinity (but not anywhere close to Rocker) to a big cheer from the crowd....and preceded to get arrested! I remember seeing in the law journal a few months later that the case was dismissed (in some shape or form) but I couldn't believe that simply throwing a ball back on the field got the guy arrested.

I just hope Leaf fans aren't idiots.

I remember a Ranger fan at an Isles vs random team game throwing coins on the ice and eventually got escorted out but almost got the Isles a delay of game penalty. Prick.

Also remember a Leaf fan yelling at the Ice girls and that America sucks only to be drowned out by USA chants. But for those not around it got the "half the team is Canadian why are they chanting that" reaction. Guy was also a prick.

I just don't feel like a lot is going to happen. It'll be loud at times, a few idiots will boo the Canadian national anthem, Leafs fans will be obnoxious, and maybe security will have to escort a few clowns out.

Other than that it should be fun.

How about Strawberry's return to Shea as a Dodger? Chants of Daaaa-ryyyl! on the 7 train two hours before the game. First time up he gets booed mercilessly. Next time up he hits one out of the park and gets a standing ovation. :) LOL

Well if Leafs fans act like idiots, that's on them. You would hope they would be a little smarter and have a little more self awareness considering the likely atmosphere of the place.

What are the odds you would get pelted with a beer instead of one of the many empty seats at Barclays?

It's hilarious to throw thing on the ice? :help:

Well as a child in elementary school? Yeah I thought it was absolutely hilarious. Maybe what everybody should have done is sat in their seats and chanted at the refs instead.

If nobody gets hurt and I see a plastic snake thrown in the ice I would think it's funny. I guess you wouldn't.

Yeah, that sucks. I hope you realize I would not be for throwing glass bottles on the ice, but like I said above if a plastic snake got thrown on the ice and nobody got hurt it would be funny.
