Reinhart looked awful against the Islanders he other night. Now while I absolutely love Barzal as a prospect, I can't help but think, I would have loved Reilly or Trouba on our blue line.

I was a big Trouba supporter. I really wanted Murray, but once it became evident Columbus was taking Murray I wanted Trouba big time.

Again, I am estatic with Barzal, the kid was widely considered a top five talent in one of the deeper and more talented drafts in recent memory. However, had the draft not shaken out the way it did, and Barzal was snatched up leaving us counting us with a very underwhelming Reinhart, I think a lot of fans would have loved to escort Snow right out of the front office.

All this being said, in still suspect in having a legit power forward and a legit top pairing defender in the pool. Pulock is slated as a top four pairing who will be a PP QB, while Dal Colle looks like a sniper top six left winger, but no real stud as the aforementioned skill sets.

Don't forget about Beauvillier. Garth then proceeded to deal the 2nd round pick we got from Reinhart to move up for another selection in the 1st round.

I think Beauvillier is a nice little prize, he will be a top 9 forward and a good insurance policy in case one of our other picks do not pan out.

I suspect in the future the guy we'll be comparing Barzal to will not be Reinhart, but rather Kyle Connor.

Beauvillier is def one of our safest prospects. I see a very similar type of career to Frans with a potential to be a more consistent shot of being a 30 goal scorer consistently.

However, again I'm still just trying to point out that while Snow make something out of the underwhelming Reinhart, we could have used a Morgan Reilly or Jacob Trouba on the team right about now.

As far as Connor, the kid is doing extremely well for a freshman with 44 points in 25 games.

That's great production for a freshman, 18 or 19 year old.

As far as Reilly vs Trouba, Reilly is definitely the home run or a strike out, hit or miss. Has great offensive talent (speed, passing, shooting), don't know if he will ever be great offensively though, still too early to tell. We basically have our own version in Leddy right now, though Reilly has more offensive upside. Trouba on the other hand is another animal all together, I think he has a chance to be a stud, but the inconsistency is there.

One organizational weakness I see is depth in forwards. Sure we have our higher end guys (Barzal, Beauvillier, MDC, JHS), besides them there is really not much else. Collberg is a bust, Cammarata probably won't be signed and he's awful, Schempp might be an ok AHL player. I'd like to see maybe an NCAA signing or an overage junior player signed.

Jimmy Vesey???? Not a chance in hell, I'm sure. But its fun to dream.

We could use a rugged, skilled right handed shot forward. Would be nice to pick that up in the draft this year.

Windsor versus Kingston is on Sportsnet tomorrow night (Friday) as the national Friday CHL broadcast. Not sure if the American folks get the Sportsnet feed.

Who care about depth in forwards when you have 4 top ones? Other than Pulock (who's future still remains a total mystery anyway), we don't have 1 guy I'm confident will be a future NHLer. Mayfield I think is too slow, Pelech has a scary ailment that may force him to retire, we'll see if Vande Sompel can overcome his lack of size, and who knows about the rest.

Most teams would kill for our forward prospect pool, but most teams also wouldn't want our D-man pool. That's the biggest weakness.

The bolded is a big leap unless you know something that we don't.

3 Islanders prospect in the top 50 list by Craig Button. Barzal at 28, Beauvillier at 40 and Dal Colle at 49.

I agree with you. The one that I'm the most confident with, it's Pelech, but I see him as a good 3rd pair D-man. I still hope that Pulock turns out to be a top 4 but I don't think that's a sure thing. After them, they are all long shots : Mayfield, Vande Sompel and Wortherspoon are the best ones among that group.

I think the Isles needs to take the best D-man available at the next entry draft, unless there is a forward too good too pass. Markus Niemelainen seems interesting (if we draft between 20 and 30). Or Libor Hajek?
