All I will keep saying is quite a few areas need to be upgraded for them to have a chance of even righting things to be a playoff team. Finding the right coach. A second pair D. Legit goalie. At least 2-3 new middle six type bodies up front. All of those things need to happen IMO. And the Gm talking about MacDermid of all things today is a disgrace.

Somehow we still got outshot 10-7 in the 3rd period, despite leading the game in shots. Very fitting for the Travis Green finale.

I do think we had the shot advantage in the 3rd period against the Flyers, but I'm pretty sure that was the only time since the Buffalo game where we led the 3rd period in shots through the end of the season tonight.

And it may have even started before that game. Was the Toronto game the one before that? Yeah, I'm pretty sure we got outshot that 3rd period too. I think that was the game where we got outshot 47-24 or something and won the game.

Next coach is probably going to institute much more structure and we have a full team that has never played under any structure. It's going to be a hard transition I think. On top of that we are still going to go into next season with an inexperienced defense and a group of very soft forwards that don't really like playing defense.
Its a Fitz job to sign forechecking\defensive forwards and top-4 LHD. At least more solid third pair defenseman than Bahl.

I liked his job before, but a lot of problems show their head. Its his job to do. Fix it.

Exactly. No excuses about lack of flexibility or any nonsense. Your job is to fix it without doing something idiotic. And if you can’t meet those parameters, you arent cut out for the job and you’re gone. End of story.

A thoughtful devil fan ask if we had a Timo bobblehead and handed my 7yo daughter one the way up the stairs to leave the seats as we were leaving. They was nice of him. (We had none).

We got in not so late (maybe 630pm) but there were no bobble heads at the Lafayette corner enterence. As we get to main concourse until I get to my seats I see dozens of isles fans walking around with at least a bobble head or 2 each.

Shame and ironically that they give out giveaways to team rival fans on the last game of season and own team fans left with nothing. Like Isle fans give a shit about Timo Meier but walk around with the memorabilia while fans left out.

Only got one because a guy was kind enough to notice my daughter had none.

If I’m not mistaken you have been pretty supportive of Fitz…but that statement about the forwards sounds like a pretty damning indictment to me.
Absolutely supportive of Fitz ...the team is significantly better than before he took over....

The previous GM was so bad and we're still paying for it....our defense is on a different timeline because it was neglected for 5 years. But the softness of forwards stem from our best players...it would take something monumental to change that

Do I even ask? I left early and have the Met postgame on

Oh no

What happened there? I'll have to catch it on youtube.
I went back to listen again, it wasn’t really that bad actually. It was one of the biggest word salad cliche stream of consciousness pressers though lol.

He liked a lot of things about their game. Played with a lot of pace, wasn’t happy with the special teams, didn’t get the job done. Talked about the young core, need to get stronger mentally and physically, need to learn how to win, blah blah blah. Allen played alright, would want a goal back. Didn’t want to pull anyone so Clarke could play, Nosek deserved to be in cause he’s been here all year lol.

We really weren’t the same team this year as last. Before the injuries there was a turnover of Tatar, Wood, Shango, Boqvist, Severson and Graves and then we lose McLeod, Hamilton, Bastian and Hughes is badly hurt. That’s the majority of the team turned over.

You win and lose as a team, no two ways about it and team synergy is everything. So Fitz’s and a new coach’s job is essentially to build another contending team - a new one - around about 6 to 8 of the original 2023 pieces.

That ain't going to do it ... bottom 6 players playing 12 minutes a night are going to make the soft ass top 6 top guys like Jack, Nico and Bratt who are playing 17 to 20 minutes a night not play soft game. They play such a passive game it's disgusting

Sounds crazy but in some strange way its a positive thing.

Fitz should understand what the difference between 2023 and 2024 Devils (besides injuries) and what he should do to make this team better and what kind of protection he needs to sign. (For example) another PP specialist scorer who can do nothing besides PP and scoring , or solid third line center who will be capable to play second line center role for limited period of time.

Its not that all true. Third line forwards are playing 15 min often, all bottom six should survive.
Top 4 LHD is a big job. Luke isn't PKer. After Siegs injuries Bahl was bad in this role, so we should have two solid LHD who can play 5 on 5 and PK and can be solid to play second line role if one of them is hurt.

Of course Devils should not build around Jack and Nico by "Toffolies". It should be "Tatars".

The PP ended the way it failed for the entire 2024. Laughable and uninspiring.

I'd say this is one of the most disappointing seasons for me as a devils fan in last 15 or so years. The end result based on expectations and based off of last year's awesomeness is what makes this so terrible. The dark days before Hall were bad but we all knew they would be bad and we cheered for our only hard working heros put in a tough situation above what they could ultimately shoulder (palms, Larsson, zajac, severson, etc) .

This season was a disaster pretty much within the first few weeks, except a lot of us here were assuming the team would snap out of it. There were some warning signs early but we figured the team would gel further and everything would look a lot closer to last season to a degree.

We hit peak excitement at the met life stadium series game and literally the roller coaster flew off the track going 80 mph and exploded into a hundred pieces soon after. Amazing implosion since then.

I can't even blame ruff anymore. This is on the coaching staff as a whole and the players and management for doing stupid things. All around

What a wasted year.

I can probably count on one hand the number of games this year where I felt the team truly dominated and dictated play.

Absolutely disappointing and embarrassing given the talent on this roster. Feels like these guys came into the season thinking everything would come easy. Huge reality check. Hopefully they come out hungry like last season in October.

Novo blatantly listed the coaching change as one of the teams problems this year lol.

When he put that along with the 1-0 deficits, injuries, goaltending and regressions, it’s pretty clear what he thinks of it lol.

Novo is a annoying here.

He was the one cheerleading the whole holtz and ruff thing from the "main media" sources. And it looks like, to a large degree Lindy Ruff was actually spot on about holtz, now that we saw holtz for another 30 games without ruff and in some different lines. Same old story. I don't know how many goals he has had recently but it seemed like 2 goals in 30 games. Would need to check the stats.

Dude needs to figure shit out or be gone.

Novo needs to shut up too because we can't blame ruff anymore. This team was toast for a lot more reasons than just ruff.

Haula, mercer and bottom 6 of tierney and nosek were dog shit for a lot of the season. Nosek make a resurgence for a short while but it didn't last. Toff was a semi successful or fail depending on how you see it.

D was an absolute mess all season long. Marino and sieges sucked for large sections of it, same with smith and bahl in spurts. Bahl didn't grow in game skills.. Luke was good offensively for some of season and bad defensive for a lot of it.

Lot of disappointments and blame can be easily apportioned across the players.

Not to mention the goaltending debacles.

They didn't? I remember at least one coming on here and doing it right after Lindy got fired.

He's probably the second most hated man in Vancouver behind only Mark Messier.

If one time poster Trottier was here, he would argue nobody hated Messier in Vancouver and that Green may actually be the most hated man in Vancouver.

I really like Jesper Bratt's more candid interview. Post game. He said it like it is and was.

He was asked about one thing that went wrong and he reflected about the immaturity in the way they played some games. Like down in games for 2/3rds of the games this season (about their giving up 1st goals and trailing for most of the games this season).

Immaturity in their game many times across the season and they lost games from it. Played too fancy sometimes.

Hope he tears it up even moreso next season. Hope this season feels that motivation for all our core guys. Hope it doesn't come up empty talk.

@Bleedred I definitely misremembered it, looking back at the Green thread and the post in question it was actually MARKSTROM who made Green’s career in the AHL, I confused the actual Devils goalie with the speculated one, I just remembered it being a fantastic coincidence since we’ve been in on Markstrom forever
Markstorm didn't win him the AHL title. He damned well tried hard enough though. The Comets lost to the Manchester Monarchs in the Calder Cup Finals and Marky was the biggest reason they got that far alnon with probably the best D-corps in the AHL that season.
