Is this year....like....the worst year?

Nah, worst years were the ones under Mactavish, easily.

Nothing will ever top watching those team try to play hockey under the massive disaster of a coach that was Eakins, knowing that Mact would never be able to fix any of it because he was a colossal idiot, all the while feeling the hopelessness and despair of believing the new GM would never get fired because he was best buds with the owner.

I would rather watch the 2010 season from start to finish, 5 years in a row, than suffer through that again.

I've never seen worse hockey then that year and a half under Eakins. Even the 2009/10 team was more exciting and played harder. The team has been putting in a pretty good effort and have still been in the game in almost every loss. 6 out of 14 losses have been by 1 goal with a few 2 goal losses due to an empty net goal getting scored.

Curious, are we worse in points and the standings than this exact time last year? (sure feels that way)

Until next year.

I've come to accept the fact that the Oilers are the bad news bears of the NHL.
The Charlie Brown's of the NHL.

I don't care who we draft. Who we trade for. This team will be a pile of dog crap.

Here's to what I say about trading RNH, Hall, Eberle, and every other player on this team.

It couldn't get any worse.
What could happen? we finish even worse than last?

Definitely the worst for me. I don't care what anyone says, last place was NOT expected or acceptable. Everyone had us around 9-10 just missing playoffs.
Also this bizarre idea on this board that since its a new gm/coach they get 1 free 30th place finish is ****ing absurd. No other team gives new gms/coaches that leeway, there is no acceptable excuse for being last overall again.

Oilers wouldn't be in Edmonton today without Darryl Katz, people tend to forget that.

I can't believe no-one else picked up on this... REALLY? The Oilers wouldn't be in Edmonton today without CAL NICHOLS.

Katz came along and forced a division in the ownership group when they were on solid financial footing, after the club's financial valuation had risen sharply since EOG bought the team.

I admit that the valuation has again raised so sharply because Katz had the vision and wherewithal to get the new arena built... but the team would not be leaving if he hadn't stepped in.

I'd rather see a community group own a team any day over one single profit-motivated owner. See Green Bay Packers.

well, this is why I didn't jump on the "turned the corner" bandwagon after the New Jersey game.
the Oilers don't fool me any more.

I was hoping but at this point I have incredibly low expectations. I cant imagine them achieving anything this year and I dont trust signs of "improvement" once the games dont matter. Last year I got all upset but now it's just kind of meh, cant care.

McDavid and the front office changes got me to buy a couple tickets this year but even with the new arena I wont be seeing an Oilers game live next season or for several after. I think they've killed my interest. I still watch on TV but I'm not paying to go anymore.

I decided not to pay for the product anymore last year until changes were made. Bought in again a couple times this year and am done again until more changes are made. This team is the laughing stock of the rest of the NHL - hard to listen to the radio shows anymore. They'll probably change the lottery format again as a result of them - to X amount of years between 1st picks required or something along those lines.

They already did change the lottery rules. Even if Edmonton continues along on their current trend and finishes last, they could very easily be picking 4th overall.

I guess I'm worried that we could end up trading stars for depth and still end up with injured players, Fluke losses and suck while we watch our scapegoats flourish elsewhere.

I think that could be the bottom. Next year.

There is a lot of informal talk of people wanting to change them again - so that the Oilers simply could not draft #1 pick this year or even next year - even if they were lucky enough to win the lottery again.

No.

The on ice product is superior in every way to what it has been in many different ways.

One bad game hardly dissolves all that has happened to this point.

However, I no longer have patience for this team. I want wins now. Last night was unacceptable.

They need to take at least one solid step forward this year and while they have improved by leaps and bounds overall they still suck balls in the standings and are missing that last step to even be an NHL average team.

No longer horrible (barring last night) is good. But we need wins now.

this team needs to win 35 games this year in order to avoid the whole "embarrassment" factor once again

which means they need to win 28 games in their last 60...sub .500 hockey

its a monumental task to go (almost) .500 but these good efforts need to translate into wins

The ten year drought changes with the outcome of the grey cup.

November 27, 2005, the Eskimos beat the Alouettes in Vancouver.
7 Months later the Oilers are playing for the Stanley Cup.

..........Nearly a decade of muck.......

................November 29, 2015, the Eskimos play the RedBlacks for the Grey Cup in Winnipeg. Following this hopefully triumphant endeavor, the curse becomes reversed and the Oilers' chains-of-suckery are unshackled by the success of their big brothers in green and gold. Bring in the new arena with an uncursed era.

Psychological Note * This is the fantasy world i currently live in because of this team
