So if he never hits 60 but has say 5 straight years of minimum 40 goals, so last year he hit 40.
Let's say he hits 50 this year
54 next year 48 in 19 20
And in 20-21 52.
That's 5 straight years of 40+ goals 3 years of 50+ goals
by the way he's capable of that, he's capable of 5 straight years of 40+ goals and 3 years of 50+ goals.
Is that not better than 1 season of 60 goals?
I think you're missing a key point here:
Stamkos did not simply have 1 season of 60 goals.
Maybe you misunderstood the intention of bringing up the 60 goal mark, but there are only two players who have done that recently. One of them is Ovechkin. Since the poll asks if Matthews is the best pure goal scorer since Ovechkin, it's probably smart to go to only other guy who also has a 60-goal season. He also has a 51 goal season, two other 40+ goal seasons, and two more years where he was on pace for 40 goals but the lockout or an injury cut into his total goals. Basically, a healthy Stamkos in his prime scores a lot of goals, and the only player who scores more is Ovechkin.
So, I'll reiterate, Matthews does not simply need to stay healthy and keep producing.
